TL;DR: This paper proposes the model driven approach, which is based on a two-hemisphere model, a practice-oriented approach which ties together methods of business process modeling, object oriented, and model transformation approaches in order to support cognitive needs of requirements holders and object oriented software developers.
Abstract: Several model driven approaches are currently used and developed, namely, generic model driven approaches, agile model driven approaches, business process model driven approaches, etc. This paper proposes the model driven approach, which is based on a two-hemisphere model. The two-hemisphere model integrates application and problem domain issues. The model utilizes automatic model transformations, but in the same time allows room for input of tacit knowledge. It is a practice-oriented approach which ties together methods of business process modeling, object oriented, and model transformation approaches in order to support cognitive needs of requirements holders and object oriented software developers, and provide framework for explicit and transparent representation of mutually related business and software development knowledge. It utilizes tacit knowledge of stakeholders (including software designers), but in the same time reflects this knowledge in explicit and automatically reconfigurable models that form the basis for automatic code generation.
TL;DR: The CBR methodology, the research issues and technical aspects of implementing intelligent medical diagnoses systems, and successful applications in cancer and heart diseases developed by Medical Informatics Research Group at Ain Shams University are discussed.
Abstract: Case based reasoning (CBR) methodology presents a foundation for a new technology of building intelligent computer- aided diagnoses systems. This Technology directly addresses the problems found in the traditional Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, e.g. the problems of knowledge acquisition, remembering, robust and maintenance. This paper discusses the CBR methodology, the research issues and technical aspects of implementing intelligent medical diagnoses systems. Successful applications in cancer and heart diseases developed by Medical Informatics Research Group at Ain Shams University are also discussed.
TL;DR: In this paper, the Temporal Control Structure (TCS) is presented to support reasoning with data changing over time and show how it can be used to implement reasoning by hindsight.
TL;DR: It is argued that methods from the field of knowledge representation can be used for the use of defeasible reasoning, a simple but efficient reasoning method based on rules and priorities.
Abstract: Business rules are statements which are used to run the activities of an organization. In the era of electronic commerce it is important for these rules to be represented explicitly, and to be automatically applicable. In this paper we argue that methods from the field of knowledge representation can be used for this purpose. In particular, we propose the use of defeasible reasoning, a simple but efficient reasoning method based on rules and priorities. We motivate the use of defeasible reasoning, give examples, describe two case studies, and outline current and future work in our research.
TL;DR: ExpertGuide tightly integrates CBR techniques and provides a user interface for users who want advice from mentors and is currently being used when building WWW-based mentor systems with scales ranging from division-wide to corporate-wide and nationwide.
Abstract: Case-based reasoning (CBR) has been used to improve knowledge management in corporate activities It was initially used for problem solving and then for facilitating the distribution of knowledge and experiences Since conversational CBR appeared, it has also been used to develop mentor systems in complex knowledge spaces ExpertGuide was designed as a tool for developing WWW-based mentor systems It was designed during the development of CBR systems used at NEC Multilink retrieval provides a method for searching a case library from several viewpoints Question selection by entropy finds most effective questions in discriminating cases It does this by calculating the information gain of candidate questions Indexing with scripts is a case-indexing method using Schank's scripts and is effective when situations and problems are hard to express and assess ExpertGuide tightly integrates these techniques and provides a user interface for users who want advice from mentors It is currently being used when building WWW-based mentor systems with scales ranging from division-wide to corporate-wide and nationwide
