Eliminating the mere exposure effect through changes in context between exposure and test.
TL;DR: The study suggests that the context of exposure and test moderates the mere exposure effect, which is dependent on experiencing the stimuli in the same context in exposure and on test.

Abstract: The present study examined the extent to which increased liking of exposed stimuli*the mere exposure effect*is dependent on experiencing the stimuli in the same context in exposure and on test. Participants were repeatedly exposed to pairs of cues (nonsense words) and target stimuli (faces and shapes), and were asked to rate the pleasantness of the target stimuli in a subsequent test phase. Familiar targets were preferred to novel targets*a mere exposure effect was obtained. This

Exposure is not enough: suppressing stimuli from awareness can abolish the mere exposure effect.
TL;DR: The results show that under these conditions the mere exposure effect does not occur without conscious awareness, and are consistent with the idea that themere exposure effect requires conscious awareness and has important implications for theories of memory and affect.

Do we enjoy what we sense and perceive? A dissociation between aesthetic appreciation and basic perception of environmental objects or events
TL;DR: In this paper , a local-global integrative model is proposed to analyze the dissociative nature of information processing in the brain, which can account not only for simple and pure aesthetic experiences but for partial and complex aesthetic experiences as well.

Mere Exposure Effect Is Sometimes Insensitive to Mood Inductions.
TL;DR: The mere exposure effect (MEE) as mentioned in this paper is defined as repeated exposures to a stimulus enhancing affective evaluations of that stimulus (Zajonc, 1968), and it is a well-known phenomenon.

表情の快・不快情報が選好判断に及ぼす影響――絶対数と割合の効果――

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented multiple happy or disgust face images around a target and examined their influence on target preference, finding that the happy face increased the target preference and its effect varied by the ratio of happy faces On the other hand, the disgust face decreased target preference only if there was one such face.

Attitudinal effects of mere exposure.
TL;DR: The exposure-attitude hypothesis as discussed by the authors suggests that mere repeated exposure of the individual to a stimulus object enhances his attitude toward it, i.e., exposure is meant a condition making the stimulus accessible to the individual's perception.

Processing Fluency and Aesthetic Pleasure: Is Beauty in the Perceiver's Processing Experience?
TL;DR: This work proposes that aesthetic pleasure is a funnction of the perceiver's processing dynamics: the more fluently perceivers can process an object, the more positive their aesthetic response, and reviews variables known to influence aesthetic judgments, and traces their effects to changes in processing fluency.

TL;DR: The present article presents the freely available Radboud Faces Database, a face database in which displayed expressions, gaze direction, and head orientation are parametrically varied in a complete factorial design, containing both Caucasian adult and children images.
Exposure and affect: Overview and meta-analysis of research 1968-1987
TL;DR: In this paper, auteur analyse les effets de variables methodologiques (type et complexite du stimulus, intervalle de presentation, temps d'exposition) and de variables subjectives (âge d-exposition, personnalite) sur la sensibilite du sujet aux stimulus de toutes sortes.
