Apelin, a newly identified adipokine up-regulated by insulin and obesity
Jeremie Boucher,Bernard Masri,Danièle Daviaud,Stephane Gesta,Charlotte Guigné,Anne Mazzucotelli,Isabelle Castan-Laurell,Ivan Tack,Bernard Knibiehler,Christian Carpéné,Yves Audigier,Jean-Sébastien Saulnier-Blache,Philippe Valet +12 more
TL;DR: Apelin is identified as a novel adipocyte endocrine secretion and its potential link with obesity-associated variations of insulin sensitivity status is focused on and evidence that insulin exerts a direct control on apelin gene expression in adipocytes is provided.
G Protein-Coupled Receptors in Cancer: Biochemical Interactions and Drug Design
TL;DR: G Protein-Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) share the same topology made of seven-transmembrane segments and represent the largest family of membrane receptors Initially associated with signal transduction in differentiated cells, GPCRs and heterotrimeric G proteins were shown to behave as proto-oncogenes whose overexpression or activating mutations confer transforming properties.

Assays for studying functional properties of in vitro translated Gs alpha subunit.
TL;DR: This chapter discusses different procedure designed to study the functional properties of mutated in vitro translated Gsα subunits, based on the synthesis of large amounts of α subunit in bacteria and its use for reconstitution of cyc- membranes, which faces the problem of posttranslational modifications which are lacking in the bacterially expressed proteins.

Protamine is an antagonist of apelin receptor, and its activity is reversed by heparin.
Sophie Le Gonidec,Carline Chaves-Almagro,Yushi Bai,Hye Jin Kang,Allyson C. Smith,Estelle Wanecq,Xi Ping Huang,Hervé Prats,Bernard Knibiehler,Bryan L. Roth,Larry S. Barak,Marc G. Caron,Philippe Valet,Yves Audigier,Bernard Masri +14 more
TL;DR: A cell‐based screening assay that uses fluorescence microscopy to identify apelin receptor (APJ) antagonists is developed and demonstrates a new pharmacologic property of protamine—blockade of APJ—that could explain some adverse effects observed in protamine‐treated patients.
