Promotion of central nervous system remyelination by induced differentiation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells.
Sha Mi,Robert H. Miller,Wei Tang,Xinhua Lee,Bing Hu,Wutain Wu,Yi Ping Zhang,Christopher B. Shields,Yongjie Zhang,Steven D. Miklasz,Diana Shea,Jeff Mason,Robin J.M. Franklin,Benxiu Ji,Zhaohui Shao,Alain Chédotal,Frédéric Bernard,Aude J.A. Roulois,Janfeng Xu,Vincent Jung,Pepinsky R Blake +20 more
TL;DR: The ability of anti–LINGO‐1 reagents to promote myelination in vitro and remyelination during repair in the rodent adult central nervous system in vivo is tested.

The influence of spinal canal narrowing and timing of decompression on neurologic recovery after spinal cord contusion in a rat model.
TL;DR: There is strong evidence that the prognosis for neurologic recovery is adversely affected by both a higher percentage of canal narrowing and a longer duration of Canal narrowing after a spinal cord injury.

Spinal Cord Contusion Based on Precise Vertebral Stabilization and Tissue Displacement Measured by Combined Assessment to Discriminate Small Functional Differences
Yi Ping Zhang,Darlene A. Burke,Lisa B. E. Shields,Sergey Y. Chekmenev,Toros Dincman,Yongjie Zhang,Yiyan Zheng,Rebecca R. Smith,Richard L. Benton,William H. DeVries,Xiaoling Hu,David S.K. Magnuson,Scott R. Whittemore,Christopher B. Shields +13 more
TL;DR: The LISA produces reliable and reproducible SCI whose parameters of injury can be adjusted to more accurately reflect clinical SCI, and multiple outcome measures are necessary to accurately detect small differences in functional deficits and/or recovery.

Adult rat forelimb dysfunction after dorsal cervical spinal cord injury
Stephen M. Onifer,Yi Ping Zhang,Darlene A. Burke,Donna L. Brooks,Julie A. Decker,Natasha J. McClure,Andrea Floyd,Jacob Hall,Bryan L. Proffitt,Christopher B. Shields,David S.K. Magnuson +10 more
TL;DR: The present study revealed that both anatomically and electrophysiologically complete myelotomies of the C4 spinal cord dorsal columns significantly increased the adult rat's averaged times to first attend to adhesive stickers placed on the palms of their forepaws at 1 week.

Dural closure, cord approximation, and clot removal: enhancement of tissue sparing in a novel laceration spinal cord injury model
Yi Ping Zhang,Christopher Iannotti,Lisa B. E. Shields,Yingchun Han,Darlene A. Burke,Xiao Ming Xu,Christopher B. Shields +6 more
TL;DR: Apposition of the severed ends of the spinal cord by dural closure reduces the lesion gap, cystic cavitation, and connective tissue scar formation, which will facilitate transplantation-mediated axonal regeneration after laceration-induced SCI.
