Effect of intensive treatment of hyperglycaemia on microvascular outcomes in type 2 diabetes: an analysis of the ACCORD randomised trial
Faramarz Ismail-Beigi,Timothy E. Craven,Mary Ann Banerji,Jan Basile,Jorge Calles,Robert M. Cohen,R. Cuddihy,William C. Cushman,Saul Genuth,Richard H. Grimm,Bruce P. Hamilton,Byron J. Hoogwerf,Diane M. Karl,Lois A. Katz,Armand Krikorian,Patrick J. O'Connor,Rodica Pop-Busui,Ulrich K. Schubart,Debra L. Simmons,Harris C. Taylor,Abraham Thomas,Daniel J. Weiss,Irene Hramiak +22 more
TL;DR: Intensive therapy did not reduce the risk of advanced measures of microvascular outcomes, but delayed the onset of albuminuria and some measures of eye complications and neuropathy.

Incidence and Prognosis of Resistant Hypertension in Hypertensive Patients
Stacie L. Daugherty,J. David Powers,David J. Magid,Heather M. Tavel,Frederick A. Masoudi,Karen L. Margolis,Patrick J. O'Connor,Joe V. Selby,P. Michael Ho +8 more
TL;DR: Patients with resistant hypertension had an increased risk of cardiovascular events, which supports the need for greater efforts toward improving hypertension outcomes in this population.

Effect of Home Blood Pressure Telemonitoring and Pharmacist Management on Blood Pressure Control: A Cluster Randomized Clinical Trial
Karen L. Margolis,Stephen E. Asche,Anna R. Bergdall,Steven P. Dehmer,Sarah Groen,Holly M. Kadrmas,Tessa J. Kerby,Krissa J. Klotzle,Michael V. Maciosek,Ryan Michels,Patrick J. O'Connor,Rachel Pritchard,Jaime Sekenski,JoAnn M. Sperl-Hillen,Nicole K. Trower +14 more
TL;DR: Home BP telemonitoring and pharmacist case management achieved better BP control compared with usual care during 12 months of intervention that persisted during 6 months of postintervention follow-up.

Effects of intensive glucose lowering on brain structure and function in people with type 2 diabetes (ACCORD MIND): A randomised open-label substudy
Lenore J. Launer,Michael E. Miller,Jeff D. Williamson,Ronald M. Lazar,Hertzel C. Gerstein,Anne M. Murray,Mark D. Sullivan,Karen R. Horowitz,Jingzhong Ding,Santica M. Marcovina,Laura C. Lovato,James Lovato,Karen L. Margolis,Patrick J. O'Connor,Edward W. Lipkin,Joy Hirsch,Laura H. Coker,Joseph A. Maldjian,Jeffrey L. Sunshine,Charles Truwit,Christos Davatzikos,R. Nick Bryan +21 more
TL;DR: Although significant differences in TBV favoured the intensive treatment, cognitive outcomes were not different and the findings do not support the use of intensive therapy to reduce the adverse effects of diabetes on the brain in patients with similar characteristics to those of participants.
The effects of baseline characteristics, glycaemia treatment approach, and glycated haemoglobin concentration on the risk of severe hypoglycaemia: post hoc epidemiological analysis of the ACCORD study
Michael E. Miller,Denise E. Bonds,Hertzel C. Gerstein,Elizabeth R. Seaquist,Richard M. Bergenstal,Jorge Calles-Escandon,R. Dale Childress,Timothy E. Craven,Robert Cuddihy,George Dailey,Mark N. Feinglos,Farmarz Ismail-Beigi,Joe F. Largay,Patrick J. O'Connor,Terri Paul,Peter J. Savage,Ulrich K. Schubart,Ajay Sood,Saul Genuth +18 more
TL;DR: A greater drop in haemoglobin A1C concentration from baseline to the 4 month visit was not associated with an increased risk for hypoglycaemia, and patients with poorer glycaemic control had a greater risk of hypoglycanemia, irrespective of treatment group.
