Prevalence of diagnosed atrial fibrillation in adults: national implications for rhythm management and stroke prevention: the AnTicoagulation and Risk Factors in Atrial Fibrillation (ATRIA) Study.
Alan S. Go,Elaine M. Hylek,Kathleen A. Phillips,Yuchiao Chang,Lori E. Henault,Joe V. Selby,Daniel E. Singer +6 more
TL;DR: It is confirmed that atrial fibrillation is common among older adults and provides a contemporary basis for estimates of prevalence in the United States.

Effect of intensity of oral anticoagulation on stroke severity and mortality in atrial fibrillation.
Elaine M. Hylek,Alan S. Go,Yuchiao Chang,Nancy G. Jensvold,Lori E. Henault,Joe V. Selby,Daniel E. Singer +6 more
TL;DR: These findings provide further evidence against the use of lower INR target levels in patients with atrial fibrillation and suggest that anticoagulation that results in an INR of 2.0 or greater reduces not only the frequency of ischemic stroke but also its severity and the risk of death from stroke.

Incidence and Prognosis of Resistant Hypertension in Hypertensive Patients
Stacie L. Daugherty,J. David Powers,David J. Magid,Heather M. Tavel,Frederick A. Masoudi,Karen L. Margolis,Patrick J. O'Connor,Joe V. Selby,P. Michael Ho +8 more
TL;DR: Patients with resistant hypertension had an increased risk of cardiovascular events, which supports the need for greater efforts toward improving hypertension outcomes in this population.

Anticoagulation therapy for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation: how well do randomized trials translate into clinical practice?
Alan S. Go,Elaine M. Hylek,Yuchiao Chang,Kathleen A. Phillips,Lori E. Henault,Angela M. Capra,Nancy G. Jensvold,Joe V. Selby,Daniel E. Singer +8 more
TL;DR: Warfarin is very effective for preventing ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation in clinical practice while the absolute increase in the risk of intracranial hemorrhage is small.

Warfarin Use among Ambulatory Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: The AnTicoagulation and Risk Factors in Atrial Fibrillation (ATRIA) Study
Alan S. Go,Elaine M. Hylek,Leila H. Borowsky,Kathleen A. Phillips,Joe V. Selby,Daniel E. Singer +5 more
TL;DR: A large, contemporary sample of ambulatory patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation treated in a health maintenance organization was assembled and the prevalence and determinants of warfarin use for stroke prevention were assessed.
