Is plasma 25(OH) D related to adipokines, inflammatory cytokines and insulin resistance in both a healthy and morbidly obese population?
Nuria Vilarrasa,Joan Vendrell,Javier Maravall,Iñaki Elio,Esther Solano,Patricia San José,Isabel García,Nuria Virgili,J. Soler,José Manuel Gómez +9 more
TL;DR: No associations were found either between 25(OH) D and plasma glucose and insulin resistance or with lipid profile, and subjects with vitamin D deficiency are not characterized by a greater inflammatory state, suggesting a major role of 25( OH) D in the pro-inflammatory environment observed in morbidly obese subjects.

Effect of weight loss induced by gastric bypass on proinflammatory interleukin-18, soluble tumour necrosis factor- α receptors, C-reactive protein and adiponectin in morbidly obese patients
Nuria Vilarrasa,Joan Vendrell,R. Sánchez-Santos,Montserrat Broch,Anna Megia,Carles Masdevall,Núria Gómez,J. Soler,J. Pujol,C. Bettónica,H. Aranda,José M. Gómez +11 more
TL;DR: In morbidly obese patients undergoing gastric bypass, the relationship of IL‐18 with insulin resistance and with proinflammatory cytokines (tumour necrosis factor‐α receptors, sTNFR), C‐reactive protein (CRP) and with adiponectin is analyzed.

Relationship between 25-(OH) D3, the IGF-I system, leptin, anthropometric and body composition variables in a healthy, randomly selected population.
TL;DR: Data suggest that free IGF-I in men and fat mass in women could regulate 25-(OH) D (3) concentrations, as well as observing that leptin increased in the last decades and IGF- I system decreased by decade in both men and women.

Expression of TWEAK and its receptor Fn14 in human subcutaneous adipose tissue. Relationship with other inflammatory cytokines in obesity.
Matilde R. Chacón,Cristóbal Richart,José Manuel Gómez,Ana Megia,Nuria Vilarrasa,José Manuel Fernández-Real,A Garcia-España,Merce Miranda,Carles Masdevall,W Ricard,Enric Caubet,J. Soler,Joan Vendrell +12 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the expression of TNF-derived pro-inflammatory cytokines are increased in severe obesity, where macrophage infiltrate could modulate the inflammatory environment through activation of its receptors.

Peripheral fibrinolytic markers, soluble adhesion molecules, inflammatory cytokines and endothelial function in hypopituitary adults with growth hormone deficiency.
TL;DR: This work has shown that GH replacement has been demonstrate to improve vascular reactivity and reverse early atherosclerotic changes in adults with GHD.
