Study of the Potential Association of Adipose Tissue GLP-1 Receptor with Obesity and Insulin Resistance
Joan Vendrell,Rajaa El Bekay,Belén Peral,Belén Peral,Eduardo García-Fuentes,Anna Megia,Manuel Macias-Gonzalez,José Manuel Fernández Real,Yolanda Jimenez-Gomez,Xavier Escoté,Gisela Pachón,Rafael Simó,David M. Selva,María M. Malagón,Francisco J. Tinahones +14 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided for the presence of this receptor in AT and its mRNA and protein expressions are increased in visceral adipose depots from morbidly obese patients with a high degree of IR, and the expression of the GLP-1R in AT correlated positively with the homeostasis model assessment index in obese IR subjects.
Effect of weight loss induced by gastric bypass on proinflammatory interleukin-18, soluble tumour necrosis factor- α receptors, C-reactive protein and adiponectin in morbidly obese patients
Nuria Vilarrasa,Joan Vendrell,R. Sánchez-Santos,Montserrat Broch,Anna Megia,Carles Masdevall,Núria Gómez,J. Soler,J. Pujol,C. Bettónica,H. Aranda,José M. Gómez +11 more
TL;DR: In morbidly obese patients undergoing gastric bypass, the relationship of IL‐18 with insulin resistance and with proinflammatory cytokines (tumour necrosis factor‐α receptors, sTNFR), C‐reactive protein (CRP) and with adiponectin is analyzed.

Mannose-binding lectin gene polymorphisms are associated with gestational diabetes mellitus.
Anna Megia,Lluis Gallart,José Manuel Fernández-Real,Joan Vendrell,I. Simón,Cristina Gutierrez,Cristóbal Richart +6 more
TL;DR: Pregnant women bearing the G54D MBL allele have a greater risk for developing GDM and having heavier infants, and this association remained significant when the presence of both mutated alleles was considered.
Different TNFα expression elicited by glucose in monocytes from type 2 diabetes mellitus patients
Matilde R. Chacón,Joan Vendrell,Merce Miranda,V. Ceperuelo-Mallafré,Anna Megia,C. Gutiérrrez,J. M. Fernández-Real,Cristóbal Richart,Antonio Garcia-España +8 more
TL;DR: Increased plasma concentrations of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) system components appear in type 2 diabetes patients with poor glycemic control and cultured monocytes from these type 2 diabetic patients had an enhanced response to LPS but did not respond to an acute glucose challenge.

Distribution and determinants of adiponectin, resistin and ghrelin in a randomly selected healthy population.
Nuria Vilarrasa,Joan Vendrell,Javier Maravall,Montse Broch,Araceli Estepa,Anna Megia,Joan Soler,Inma Simón,Cristóbal Richart,José Manuel Gómez +9 more
TL;DR: The aim of this study was to analyse the distribution among sexes and all decades of the adult life of adiponectin, resistin and ghrelin and their relationship with anthropometric, body composition parameters and the IGF‐I system.
