Use of Nondefective Adenovirus-Simian Virus 40 Hybrids for Mapping the Simian Virus 40 Genome
Thomas J. Kelly,Andrew M. Lewis +1 more
TL;DR: A self-consistent map could be constructed which related specific regions of the SV40 genome to the induction of specific antigens in the nondefective Ad2-SV40 hybrids.

A nondefective (competent) adenovirus-sv40 hybrid isolated from the ad.2-sv40 hybrid population
TL;DR: A new nondefective hybrid virus has been plaque-isolated from the Ad.2-SV40 hybrid population and induces an SV40 specific antigen which is detectable by immunofluorescence and complement-fixation using sera from SV40 tumor-bearing hamsters, and produces SV40-specific RNA detectable by DNA-RNA hybridization.

Studies on nondefective adenovirus-simian virus 40 hybrid viruses. I. A newly characterized simian virus 40 antigen induced by the Ad2+ND 1 virus.
Andrew M. Lewis,Wallace P. Rowe +1 more
TL;DR: The nondefective adenovirus 2 (Ad2)-simian virus 40 (SV40) hybrid virus does not induce heat-labile SV40 T antigen but does induce a previously uncharacterized heat-stable SV40 antigen-the SV40 "U" antigen, which may play a role in malignant transformation mediated by SV40.

Studies of Nondefective Adenovirus 2-Simian Virus 40 Hybrid Viruses V. Isolation of Additional Hybrids Which Differ in Their Simian Virus 40-Specific Biological Properties
Andrew M. Lewis,Arthur S. Levine,Clyde S. Crumpacker,Myron J. Levin,Richard J. Samaha,Patrick H. Henry +5 more
TL;DR: Four new nondefective adenovirus 2 (Ad2)-simian virus 40 (SV40) hybrid viruses have been isolated and the induction of different SV40-specific functions suggests the incorporation of different segments of SV40 DNA within the genomes of the respective hybrid viruses.

Host Response to Adenovirus 2-transformed Hamster Embryo Cells
James L. Cook,Andrew M. Lewis +1 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the production of virus- transformed cells which are not oncogenic in immunocompetent syngeneic hamsters is a general property of Ad2 and that the Ad2-transformed hamster cell system may be a useful model for studying the interaction of the viral genome, the transformed cell, and developing host immunity in virus-induced carcinogenesis.
