Abstract: A method of synchronization applied to databases of a network management system which establishes synchronization between a database of a managing system and a database of a managed system, and thereby facilitates the establishment of an initial database and reconfiguration of the same. The method (i) establishes a database based on a management information tree modeled on the system configuration for a network element NE forming a managed system, (ii) transfers an upper layer managed object instance information of the management information tree to an operation system OS of the managing system autonomously or by issuance of a command, (iii) starts, by the operation system OS of the managing system, the establishment of the database by the upper layer managed object instance data, (iv) demands, by this operation system OS, information of a lower layer managed object instance subordinate to the upper layer managed object instance, (v) sends, by the network element NE of the managed system, the lower layer managed object instance information to the managing system, and (vi) establish, by the managing system, the database using the thus sent information.
TL;DR: In this article, a generic framing protocol (GFP) is implemented to enable GFP frames to contain a switching context that will allow them to be forwarded on a network without requiring state information to be distributed to interior network elements on the network.
Abstract: Link-based source routing may be implemented using generic framing protocol (GFP) to enable GFP frames to contain a switching context that will allow them to be forwarded on a network without requiring state information to be distributed to interior network elements on the network. Source routes may be computed from network topography information obtained using OSPF or ISIS. An extension header type is added to the GFP frames to signal to the network elements that the GFP frame contains a link-based source route. The source route contains a vector of tunnel IDs and a pointer to the current hop, to enable the current tunnel ID to be determined. The tunnel IDs have local significance only, and hence state information is not required to be distributed on the network. A return route may be built by index substitution as the frame traverses the network.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a virtual service negotiation initiation message from an application stratum component, wherein the initiation message comprises a plurality of network source addresses, a majority of network destination addresses, and a service specific objective, obtain the plurality of computed network paths that traverse a network of network stratum Network Elements (NEs) between the network source address and the network destination address and calculate service specific virtual topology that abstractly represents the computed service specific network paths.
Abstract: A computer program product comprising computer executable instructions stored on a non-transitory computer readable medium such that when executed by a processor cause a service specific virtual topology base, positioned in a network stratum, to receive a virtual service negotiation initiation message from an application stratum component, wherein the initiation message comprises a plurality of network source addresses, a plurality of network destination addresses, and a service specific objective, obtain a plurality of computed network paths that traverse a network of network stratum Network Elements (NEs) between the network source addresses and the network destination addresses and meet the service specific objective, and calculate service specific virtual topology that abstractly represents the computed service specific network paths.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present techniques for detecting that virtual data center services provided to one of at least two customers are being subjected to an attack, where the virtual data centre services are provided to the least two users using a same first set of physical servers via a first network element such as a physical access switch.
Abstract: Techniques are provided herein for detecting that virtual data center services provided to one of at least two customers are being subjected to an attack, wherein the virtual data center services are provided to the least two customers using a same first set of physical servers via a first network element such as a physical access switch, and responsive to detecting that virtual data center services provided to the one of the at least two customers are being subjected to an attack (e.g., a virus or denial of service attack), the technique causes the virtual data center services provided to the one of the at least two customers to be migrated to, e.g., instantiated on, a second set of physical servers that is not accessible via the first network element.
TL;DR: In this article, an improved scheduling mechanism for packet-based networks is proposed, where a plurality of connections is detected, and for each of the connections, a buffer occupancy level is determined.
Abstract: An improved scheduling mechanism usable for a data transmission in a packet based network is provided. A plurality of connections is detected , and for each of the connections, a buffer occupancy level is determined. Then, the connections having a smaller buffer occupancy level are prioritized in comparison to the other connections, and packets of the plurality of connections are scheduled on the basis of the result of the prioritizing The scheduling mechanism is implemented in a network element of the packet based network or in a sender and receiver.
