TL;DR: This review focus on various studies done on rutin explaining its broad spectrum pharmacological activities and the challenges associated with the drug and various approaches to improve the oral bioavailability of r Rutin.
Abstract: Introduction: Natural compounds such as bioflavonoids have found application in health care system due to their wide biological activities, high safety margins and lower cost. Rutin, a polyphenolic bioflavonoid has shown wide range of pharmacological applications due to its significant antioxidant properties. Conventionally, it is used as antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiallergic agent. However, current research has shown its multispectrum pharmacological benefits for the treatment of various chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. Its use is advantageous over other flavonoids as it is a nontoxic and nonoxidizable molecule. Areas covered: This review focus on various studies done on rutin explaining its broad spectrum pharmacological activities. In addition, this review will also focus on the challenges associated with the drug and various approaches to improve the oral bioavailability of rutin. Expert opinion: Rutin is a highly potent molecule due to its strong...
TL;DR: In this paper, a number of new benzimidazole derivatives were synthesized and their pharmacological activities were examined, including a good suppressive action on histamine release from rat peritoneal mast cells produced by antigen-antibody reaction, an antagonistic action on guinea pig ileum contraction caused by histamine, an inhibitory action on 5-lipoxygenase in rat basophilic leukemia-1 (RBL-1) cells, and a preventive action on NADPH dependent lipid peroxidation induced by Fe3+-ADP
TL;DR: It is suggested that antiallergic agents directly inhibit migration of smooth-muscle cells to the intima from the media and proliferation in the intIMA, and that pemirolast has more potent antihyperplastic action than does tranilast.
Abstract: Summary:We previously reported that tranilast, an antiallergic agent, reduced intimal thickening after endothelial injury in rats. In this study, to verify whether or not antiallergic agents inhibit intimal thickening, we investigated the effect of pemirolast on intimal thickening after endothelial
TL;DR: It is suggested that pemirolast would be useful in the clinical setting to prevent restenosis after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty and during 8 months of follow-up, there were no coronary events.
TL;DR: Tacrolimus ophthalmic suspension 0.1% is effective in treating severe allergic conjunctivitis in patients in whom topical antiallergic agents and corticosteroids had been ineffective.
Abstract: Aims: To examine the efficacy of tacrolimus ophthalmic suspension 0.1% in treating severe allergic conjunctivitis. Methods: This was a multicenter, randomized, double-masked, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Fifty-six patients with severe allergic conjunctivitis in whom topical antiallergic agents and corticosteroids had been ineffective were randomized to tacrolimus or placebo treatment. Patients were treated either with tacrolimus or placebo twice-daily for 4 weeks. Severity of objective signs in palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, limbus, and corneal involvement was assessed using 4 grades. Seven subjective symptoms were evaluated by visual analog scale (VAS) assessment. The primary efficacy endpoint was change in the total score of objective signs at the end of treatment. The secondary efficacy endpoints included change in the score for each objective sign and change in the VAS for each subjective symptom. Safety was assessed based on the severity and the incidence of adverse events. Results: Mean cha...
