TL;DR: Macrocyclic complexes of lead(II) have been synthesized, characterized and evaluated for their antimicrobial and antifertility activities. The complexes exhibit octahedral geometry and have been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. They also have significant antifertility effects.

Abstract: A new series of macrocyclic lead(II) complexes of the type [Pb(Mac„)X2 ] (where η = 1-4 and X = CI and N0 3 ) has been prepared by the condensation reaction of malonic acid, succinic acid, glutaric acid or adipic acid with benzildihydrazone in presence of lead ions as templates in methanolic medium. The complexes have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations, IR, 'HNMR, CNMR, and Pb NMR spectral studies. All the complexes have octahedral geometry around the central metal atom. The biological activities of the lead salts and their metal complexes have been tested in vitro against a number of pathogenic fungi and bacteria to assess their growth inhibiting potential. The antifertility effects of the complexes were also discussed, with positive findings.

Synthesis, crystal structures, antiproliferative activities and reverse docking studies of eight novel Schiff bases derived from benzil.
TL;DR: The in vitro cytotoxicity of the eight title compounds was evaluated against two tumour cell lines and two normal cell lines by MTT assay, indicating that four are inactive and the other four show severe toxicities against human A549 and mouse 4T1 cells, similar to the standard cisplatin.
