Statistical Methods for Optimization
L. Jeff Hong
- 15 Feb 2011
TL;DR: This article considers only ranking and selection: a collection of statistical procedures that intend to select the best solution from a finite (and often small) set of solutions, where the solutions can only be evaluated by running random computer experiments.

Simulation Based Analysis of Airport Terminal Resilience with a Generic Terminal Model
Nora Metzner
- 15 Jun 2020
TL;DR: This paper develops a generic terminal model and simulate the disruptive scenario of a terminal clearance for different operational schedules of selected airports, and can draw first conclusions on airport terminal resilience depending on the airport characteristics as well as the properties of the disruption scenario.

The scheduler’s balancing act of sensing and reacting: a behavioural perspective on scheduling
TL;DR: The findings show that the studied schedulers prioritise sensing activities related to checking emails rather than monitoring for disruptions in a decision support system, and find a higher potential for relative improvement in terms of responding to possible disruptions shown in decision support systems rather than responding to email requests.
Products of Random Variables
John H. Drew,Diane L. Evans,Andrew G. Glen,Lawrence M. Leemis +3 more
- 01 Jan 2017
TL;DR: This chapter describes an algorithm for computing the PDF of the product of two independent continuous random variables that has been implemented in the Product procedure in APPL.

Approaches to Modeling the Gas-Turbine Maintenance Process
TL;DR: A metric-based comparison between the traditional discrete-event and the emerging agent-based modeling approaches is reported and it is recognized that agent- based modeling can emulate high-level human decision-making and communication closely while discrete- event modeling provides a good fit for low-level sequential processes such as those found in manufacturing and logistics.

Multiple Attribute Decision Making: Methods and Applications
Shu-Jen J. Chen,Ching-Lai Hwang,Martin J. Beckmann,Wilhelm Krelle +3 more
- 01 Mar 1981
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a classification of MADM methods by data type and propose a ranking method based on the degree of similarity of the MADM method to the original MADM algorithm.

The Art in Computer Programming
Andrew Hunt,Dave Thomas +1 more
- 01 Jan 2001
TL;DR: Here the authors haven’t even started the project yet, and already they’re forced to answer many questions: what will this thing be named, what directory will it be in, what type of module is it, how should it be compiled, and so on.
How to Make a Decision: The Analytic Hierarchy Process
TL;DR: The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) includes both the rating and comparison methods and requires developing a reliable hierarchic structure or feedback network that includes criteria of various types of influence, stakeholders, and decision alternatives to determine the best choice.

Multiple Attribute Decision Making: Methods and Applications
Gwo-Hshiung Tzeng,Jih-Jeng Huang +1 more
- 22 Jun 2011
TL;DR: A compilation of modern decision-making techniques, Multiple Attribute Decision Making: Methods and Applications focuses on the fuzzy set approach to multiple attribute decision making (MADM).
