TL;DR: In this paper, a signal transfer point (STP) within a Signaling System 7 (SS7) telecommunications network receives SS7 signals transmitted by a local switch, and the serving STP encapsulates the received SS7 signal within an IP packet and transmits the IP packet over an IP network using an IP address identifying an application service provider (ASP) associated with a STP serving the specified destination local switch as the destination address.

Abstract: A signal transfer point (STP) within a Signaling System 7 (SS7) telecommunications network receives SS7 signals transmitted by a local switch. In response to a determination that the destination node specified by the received SS7 signal is connected to an Internet Protocol (IP) network, the serving STP encapsulates the received SS7 signal within an IP packet and transmits the IP packet over an IP network using an IP address identifying an application service provider (ASP) associated with a STP serving the specified destination local switch as the destination address. All other SS7 signals are transmitted over an existing SS7 telecommunications network.

- 08 Oct 2003
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method of supporting mobility in an Internet Protocol (IP)-based data network, which comprises the steps of generating a first stateful IP autoconfiguration message at a mobile node, whereby the message includes an address capable of use for routing maintenance.

Signaling System for Telecommunications
Thor Simon
- 17 Apr 2008
TL;DR: In this article, a virtual Signal Transfer Point (eSTP) is implemented by means of one or more encapsulating STPs, and the entire group of eSTPs appears to be one STP to the CCS network, but on the internal packet data network each eSTP operates as an autonomous message router for CCS traffic.

Methods and systems for automatically populating network route table
Robert J. Delaney,Todd Eichler,Peter J. Marsico +2 more
- 10 Nov 2004
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present methods and systems for automatically populating a network routing table, where one node includes a route table auto-population application and an adjacent node does not, using SS7 network management procedures to automatically populate the route table of the requesting node.
