Abstract: A definition tool of the present invention declares columns which are concealed in external tables to a multi-database server. The multi-database server controls a decomposition and an execution of query messages such that the multi-database server does not perform an arithmetic using the concealed columns. The external database server encrypts the data of concealed columns in tables of query result tables. The multi-database server designates a range to be decrypted at the time of acquiring and integrating respective result tables. A client program acquires an integrated result table and decrypts the designated range. Since the data encrypted by the external database server is decrypted by and is referred to the client program, it becomes difficult for the multi-database server to refer to a content of the concealed columns.

Querying encrypted data in a relational database system
Vahit Hakan Hacigumus,Balakrishna R. Iyer,Sharad Mehrotra +2 more
- 30 May 2003
TL;DR: In this paper, a client-server relational database system is described, where data from the client computer is encrypted by the client and hosted by the server computer, and the encrypted data is operated upon by a server computer using one or more operators selected from a group of operators comprising: (a) inequality logic operators, (b) aggregation operators, and (c) wildcard matching operators, to produce an intermediate results set.

Method and apparatus for encrypting and decrypting data in a database table
Daniel Manhung Wong,Chon Hei Lei +1 more
- 13 Apr 2005
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a system that decrypts an encrypted column in a row using a key associated with the security domain, where the key enables the database to grant access to data within the database at arbitrary levels of granularity.

- 01 Mar 1999
TL;DR: The proposed SQL:1999 is much more than merely SQL-92 plus object technology, and involves additional features that the authors consider to fall into SQL's relational heritage, as well as a total restructuring of the standards documents themselves with an eye towards more effective standards progression in the future.
