Abstract: The overall goal of the European collaborative project Daidalos is to design, develop and validate a framework for next generation mobility-enabled networks. Envisioned scenarios include heterogeneous access networks, while requiring ubiquitous, services of adequate quality, broadcast integration, as well as the ability to support privacy and anonymity while making life easier for the end-user. This paper introduces the five key concepts of the EU IST project Daidalos and how these address such diverse challenges, and sketches achievements so far.

Reliability of next-generation networks with a focus on IMS architecture
TL;DR: The service matrix is introduced as a tool to systematically represent the call paths of the more distributed NGN network and the multiple services it supports and the concept of significant point of failure (SgPoF) enables design-for-service reliability early in the design process.

TL;DR: A framework for QoS support in NGNs, where multi-interface terminals are given end-to-end QoS guarantees regardless of their point of attachment, and integrates layer two and layer three handovers by exploiting minimal additions to existing IETF and IEEE standards.

Efficient QoS based mobile multicast using context transfer
TL;DR: The architecture includes components for policy based QoS management of mobile multicast, reliable mobile multicasts support at access routers and optimised handover based on learning of capabilities ofAccess routers and networks.
Spanning a multimedia session across multiple devices
TL;DR: This paper describes an innovative solution that allows a multimedia session to be distributed over multiple devices that are in close proximity to a user, and investigates how to combine it with terminal-initiated PSM.
