Abstract: 876,985. Stuffing-box substitutes; piston packings. TAYLOR-EMMETT CONTROLS Inc. Dec. 12, 1957, No. 38649/57. Classes 122 (1) and 122 (5). A packing for relatively-movable parts comprises a housing member 24, Fig. 3, having an annular recess 27, an annular sealing member 31 of tough, low-friction plastic material, such as polytetrafluoroethylene, located in the recess and having cylindrical bearing and sealing surfaces on its opposite sides, and an O-ring 37 compressed between a wall of the recess 27 and the inner bearing surface 35 of the member 31, the packing being fixed to either of the two relatively-movable parts and the sealing surface 34 of the member 31 having sliding contact with the other. The housing member 24 is mounted either as a fixed member in a gland structure or on the movable member. As shown in Fig. 3, the housing member is sealed in the gland space 20 by a sealing ring 26 and the sealing member 31 is of L-shape; the O- ring 37 is of circular or D cross-section. If desired, the housing 24 may be provided with two annular recesses each fitted with a sealing member 31 and O-ring 37. A piston constructed of two recessed discs 77, 79, Fig. 8, clamped on a rod 80 on opposite sides of a central disc 78, has a T-shaped housing member 84 located in each recess 82 and carrying on each side of its leg an L-shaped sealing member 86 and O-ring 88.

Patent
Undersea hydraulic coupling and metal seal
Robert E. Smith
- 25 Nov 1985
TL;DR: In this paper, a coupling and metal seal are disclosed, primarily for use in undersea hydraulic applications, and the female member of the coupling is of three-piece construction, the main body portion accepts a cylindrical retainer which is held captive within the body by means of a spring clip or snap ring.

Internally preloaded metal to metal seal hydraulic connector
Robert E. Smith
- 12 Aug 1988
TL;DR: An annular metal ring seal may be used to provide a sliding fluid seal between the outer circumference of the seal member and the bore of the female coupling member as mentioned in this paper, and the sealing relation between the two is thereby enhanced.

Track pin assemblies and seal therefor
James P Morley,William J Woods +1 more
- 10 May 1977
TL;DR: An end face seal especially adapted for use in severe service environments such as for sealing track pins of crawler type tractors is described in this article, which includes a primary annular seal, having a radially extending flange portion for contacting a mating surface in face sealing engagement, and an axially extending portion, and a secondary annular sealing member positioned in use about the axial flange part.

Pilot valve mechanism for high or low pressure cut-off control
Clifford M. Peters
- 21 Mar 1975
TL;DR: An improved pilot valve mechanism for controlling the flow of a pressure medium responsive to predetermined variations in a pressurized system is presented in this paper, where a plurality of pilot valves may be connected in an assembly and may be operative to shut down operation of a flow system responsive to sensing of pressures that are above or below a predetermined range of operating pressure.
