Abstract: The invention relates to a method for recognizing and tracking a gesture. In the method, a gesture image is captured by using an image sensor, and is processed for recognizing and tracking the image; and actions corresponding to the gesture image are executed. The method comprises the following steps of: firstly, preprocessing the image; detecting image motion; analyzing image characteristics so as to judge the gesture state of the image; detecting and tracking a center coordinate of a movable gesture and outputting the center coordinate of the movable gesture if the gesture image is the movable gesture; and outputting an action instruction corresponding to a command gesture if the gesture image is the command gesture. Therefore, the method achieves the purposes of taking a digital signal processor as a hardware platform and recognizing and tracking the natural gesture.
