Abstract: A mobile payment method and system are described that facilitate efficient and secured payment transactions from an electronic wallet on a user mobile electronic device with a merchant point of sale terminal over a contactless communications link. In one aspect, the system provides for a plurality of passcode entry related states on the mobile electronic device. The mobile device transmits a transaction request message including a multi-faceted value identifying a passcode entry related state to a payment processing server. The payment processing server processes the transaction request and when the transaction request is declined for a passcode related reason, a transaction decline response is provided identifying the passcode related reason for decline.
