Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve recording sensitivity characteristics and signal quality by using an SixN1-x film having a small thermal conductivity and large refractive index as an intermediate layer CONSTITUTION:The intermediate layer 2, a magneto-optical recording layer 3 and a protective film 4 are successively formed on a substrate 1 The SixN1-x film having the concn of N lower than the stoichiometric compsn is used for the layer 2, a TbFeCo alloy for the film 3 and stoichiometrical Si3N4 for the film 4, respectively The refractive index (n) increases when the concn of the nitrogen decreases and, therefore, a sufficient enhancement effect is expected An attenuation constant (k), however, increases with an increase in the refractive index (n) and, therefore, the absorption of light in the magnetic film decreases or there is the possibility that an adverse influence arises in the medium characteristics, such as increase of noises The recording sensitivity and signal quality are, thereupon, improved by using the material consisting of the compsn having small x=0016 is used as the intermediate layer
