TL;DR: In this article, the density wave theory of the origin of the spiral structure may lead to a new broad concept in dust formation and its generic relationship with star formation, and the basic physical processes are not changed but rather the framework in which they consider them.

Abstract: The problem of the interstellar grains is in many ways still unsettled. The theories of the formation, growth, and destruction of the grains have undergone a number of modifications because of the very significant increase in our understanding of the dynamical processes in our Galaxy. I will emphasize here how the density wave theory of the origin of the spiral structure may lead to a new broad concept in dust formation and its generic relationship with star formation. The basic physical processes are not changed but rather the framework in which we consider them.

Tracing Magnetic Fields with Aligned Grains
TL;DR: The grain-alignment phenomenon is inherent not only in diffuse interstellar medium or molecular clouds but also is a generic property of the dust in circumstellar regions, interplanetary space and cometary comae.

Mid-Infrared Extinction and its Variation with Galactic Longitude
TL;DR: In this paper, the extinction in the four IRAC bands, [3.6], [4.5], [5.8], and [8.0] was derived based on the data obtained from the Spitzer/Galactic Legacy Infrared Midplane Survey Extraordinaire (GLIPMSE) Legacy Program and the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) project.

Galactic dust lanes and lunar soil
John F. Lindsay,Leonard J. Srnka +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report on the character and grain-size distribution of texturally-mature lunar soils which support the passage of the solar system through a galactic spiral arm approximately every 108 yr.

Large-Scale Shock Formation in Spiral Galaxies and its Implications on Star Formation
TL;DR: Two armed spiral galactic shock waves as triggering mechanism for gravitational collapse leading to star formation, considering gaseous disk motion using Schmidt model, were proposed in this article, where the authors used the Schmidt model for star formation.

Interstellar polarization and galactic magnetic field strengths.
TL;DR: Polarization to extinction ratio criterion to choose interstellar cloud model, discussing magnetic field strength requirements as mentioned in this paper was used to choose the cloud model for the first time, and the results showed that the proposed model is more accurate than the original model.
