Abstract: The present invention claims and discloses an information processor comprising: an auxiliary storing unit that has at least one and preferably two auxiliary storage devices in which at least three distributable virtual disks are formed so as to be distributed; a disk array control unit that controls the at least three distributable virtual disks that designate one of disk control modes; a CB storing unit that stores a control block in each virtual disk that includes but is not limited to first designation information for designating the disk control mode and second designation information for designating an auxiliary storage; and a device driver unit that generates control information of the disk array control unit including but not limited to the first designation information and the second designation information and that transmits the control information to the disk array control unit based on a request for accessing any of the at least three distributable virtual disks and a control block corresponding to the requested virtual disk.

System and method for performing raid I/O operations in PCIE-based storage resources
Surender Brahmaroutu,Gary B. Kotzur +1 more
- 15 Mar 2011
TL;DR: In this article, a RAID I/O operation in PCIe-based storage resources is described, and a method for performing a read operation may be provided, which may include overlaying memory address space of storage resources of a source logical unit for the read operation onto a destination address.

Distributed procedure execution and file systems on a memory interface
Steven C. Woo
- 23 Feb 2014
TL;DR: In this paper, nonvolatile memory (e.g., flash memory, solid-state disk) is included on memory modules that are on a DRAM memory channel, and requests and/or remote procedure call (RPC) requests, or information associated with requests and RPCs, may be routed to the memory modules over the DRAM-memory channel in order to service compute/or distributed file system commands.

Dynamic content disk
Christoph Klee,Aman Nijhawan +1 more
- 28 Aug 2015
TL;DR: In this article, a dynamic content disk for virtual computing instance is created as a thinly-provisioned virtual disk having a file system that is synthesized in accordance with a set of applications that are provisioned for a virtual machine (VM).

Striping with SCSI I/O referrals
Ross E. Zwisler,Andrew J. Spry,Gerald J. Fredin,Kenneth J. Gibson +3 more
- 29 Apr 2009
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method for communication between an initiator system and a block storage cluster, which may include initiating an input/output (I/O) request from the initiator systems to a first storage system included in a plurality of storage systems of the block storage clusters, each of the plurality consisting of data segments; receiving a referral response from the first storage systems, the referral response providing information describing a layout of data requested in the I/O request; obtaining a virtual disk count, a segment size, and at least one indexed port identifier based on

Methods for using non contiguously reserved storage space for data migration in a redundant hierarchic data storage system
Theresa A. Burkes,Bryan M. Diamond,Michael B. Jacobson,Marvin D. Nelson,Douglas L. Voigt +4 more
- 08 Aug 1995
TL;DR: In this article, a hierarchic disk array data storage system (10) has multiple storage disks (12) that define a physical storage space (34), and a RAID management system (16) that maps the physical storage spaces (34) into two virtual storage spaces.

Architecture for parallel distributed table driven I/O mapping
James M. Reuter,David W. Thiel,Robert G. Bean,Richard F. Lary +3 more
- 01 Jun 2001
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a system and method for creating virtualized storage in a storage area network using distributed table-driven input/output mapping, which allows the performance sensitive mapping process to be parallelized and distributed optimally for performance, while the control of the mapping may be located in a controller chosen for optimal cost, management, and other implementation practicalities.
