Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric power steering system with good steering feeling which can reduce vibration and noise of a handle when keeping the steering and secure the steering property at normal steering time. SOLUTION: The electric power steering system is provided with a motor 108, a current commanding value determining means B for determining the current commanding value based on the vehicle speed and a torque, a current detecting means 202 for detecting the motor current, and a current controlling means A for outputting a voltage commanding value. It is also provided with a steering state detecting means 30 for detecting the steering state of the handle, outputting a steering signal to the current controlling means A when it is detected that the handle is in a steering maintaining state, and not outputting a steering maintaining signal when it is detected that the handle is in a normal steering state. With the current controlling means A the deviation between the current commanding value and the motor current is input, the current controlling responsiveness is switched over according to the steering state detected by the steering state detecting means 30, and the current commanding value is determined based on the current controlling responsiveness after the switchover and the deviation.
