Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for tracking the state of a software component (71) in use on a computing platform. Upon a change of a first type in the software component (such as a change to an integrity-critical part of the component), an appropriate integrity metric of the software component (71) is reliably measured and recorded in cumulative combination with any previous integrity metric values recorded for changes of the first type to the software component. Upon a change of a second type in the software component (such as a change to a non integrity-critical part of the component), an appropriate integrity metric of the software component (71) is reliably measured and recorded as a replacement for any previous integrity metric value recorded for changes of the second type to the software component. The two resultant values provide an indication of the integrity state of the software component (71).

method for authenticating a trusted platform based on the tri-element peer authentication(tepa)
Yuelei Xiao,Cao Jun,Li Ge,Xiaolong Lai,Zhenhai Huang +4 more
- 03 Nov 2009
TL;DR: In this article, a method for authenticating a trusted platform based on the Tri-element Peer Authentication (TePA) is presented, which includes the following steps: A) a second attesting system sends the first message to a first attesting systems; B) the first attestation system sends a second message to the second attestation systems after receiving the first signal; C) the second attestations sent by a third party to a Trusted Third Party (TTP).

Techniques for Attesting Data Processing Systems
David Haikney,David Nigel Mackintosh,Jose Juan Palacios Perez +2 more
- 20 Sep 2011
TL;DR: In this article, a technique for attesting a plurality of data processing systems includes generating a logical grouping for a data processing system, associated with a rule that describes a condition that must be met in order for the system to be considered trusted.

Attesting a component of a system during a boot process
David Nigel Mackintosh,Jose Juan Palacios Perez,James William Walker +2 more
- 16 Sep 2014
TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method for attesting a component of a system during a boot process, which comprises the steps of: verifying that the system is in a trusted state; in response to verifying the system, requesting an enrollment of the system; and accepting the trusted state until receipt of a notification, from the system having a retained trusted state, of an update.

Attesting use of an interactive component during a boot process
Imran Imtiaz,David Nigel Mackintosh,James William Walker +2 more
- 31 Aug 2011
TL;DR: A method for attesting use of an interactive component during a boot process, comprising the steps of: reading, in response to determining use of the interactive component, associated interactive input; determining whether the input should be trusted; and processing the input to create a trusted cryptographic value, further comprising: matching the subsequent interactive input with one or more of the trusted cryptographic values.
