Computationally efficient tropical cyclone parametric wind-wave model
Guisela Grossmann-Matheson,Ian R. Young,Jose-Henrique Alves,Alberto Meucci +3 more
TL;DR: A computationally efficient parametric TC wind-wave model is developed based on WW3DG simulations. The model estimates wave heights associated with TCs and has potential applications in engineering design, risk assessment and insurance purposes.

Abstract: Waves generated by tropical cyclones (TCs) can cause damage to offshore structures and coastal settlements and play an important role in the design criteria for engineering projects, risk assessments and insurance purposes. Developing a rapid and simple way to estimate the wave heights associated with TCs has both a social and an economical advantage. The present study aims to develop a parametric TC wave prediction model, based on data generated by numerous simulations with a validated version of the WAVEWATCH III (WW3) spectral wave model (WW3DG, 2019).

The International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS)Unifying Tropical Cyclone Data
TL;DR: The International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS) project as discussed by the authors collects the historical tropical cyclone best-track data from all available Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers (RSMCs) and other agencies, combine the disparate datasets into one product, and disseminate in formats used by the tropicalcyclone community.

A Revised Model for Radial Profiles of Hurricane Winds
TL;DR: In this paper, a revision to the Holland parametric approach to modeling the radial profile of winds in hurricanes is presented, using information readily available from hurricane archives or in hurricane warning information and the profile can be readily incorporated into existing parametric models of the hurricane surface wind field.
A parametric hurricane wave prediction model
Ian R. Young
- 29 Jan 1988
TL;DR: In this article, a spectral wave model based on a numerical solution of the Radiative Transfer Equation is used to create a synthetic data base on wave conditions within hurricanes, and an equivalent fetch for hurricane wave generation which is a function of these two parameters is proposed.
Global scatterometer observations of the structure of tropical cyclone wind fields
TL;DR: In this article, a large database containing 24 years of scatterometer passes is analyzed to investigate the surface wind fields within tropical cyclones and the analysis confirms the left-right asymmetry of the wind field with the strongest winds directly to the right of the tropical cyclone center (Northern Hemisphere).

The HRD real-time hurricane wind analysis system
TL;DR: The HRD real-time wind analysis system is currently undergoing evaluation in the operational forecasting environment of the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and is an object-oriented, distributed, three-tiered client-server application as mentioned in this paper.
