Abstract: Optimization methods, which have been applied to linear matrix inequality (LMI) problems are described and results are noted. Descent methods are briefly described, and one descent method approached for solving LMI problems is discussed. Convex programming methods and applications are also outlined. Interior point methods are then discussed, and recent results of applications to LMI problems are given. >

All controllers for the general H ∞ control problem: LMI existence conditions and state space formulas
TL;DR: The existence conditions are equivalent to Scherer's results, but with a more elementary derivation, and the set of all H∞ controllers explicitly parametrized in the state space using the positive definite solutions to the LMIs is provided.

John Doyle,Andrew Packard,Kemin Zhou +2 more
- 11 Dec 1991
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a tutorial overview of linear fractional transformations (LFTs) and the role of the structured singular value, mu, and linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) in solving LFT problems.

The XY-centring algorithm for the dual LMI problem: a new approach to fixed-order control design
TL;DR: In this paper, the dual linear matrix inequality (LMI) problem is defined and a computational algorithm to solve the dual LMI problem is given. But the proposed algorithm is limited to fixed-order suboptimal control problems.

Linear and nonlinear programming
David G. Luenberger,Yinyu Ye +1 more
- 01 Jan 1984
TL;DR: Strodiot and Zentralblatt as discussed by the authors introduced the concept of unconstrained optimization, which is a generalization of linear programming, and showed that it is possible to obtain convergence properties for both standard and accelerated steepest descent methods.
Structured and Simultaneous Lyapunov Functions for System Stability Problems
Stephen Boyd,Qinping Yang +1 more
TL;DR: Boyd and Yang as mentioned in this paper showed that many system stability and robustness problems can be reduced to the question of when there is a quadratic Lyapunov function of a certain structure which establishes stability of x = Ax for some appropriate A.
Method of Centers for Minimizing Generalized Eigenvalues
Stephen Boyd,Laurent El Ghaoui +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors consider the problem of minimizing the largest generalized eigenvalue of a pair of symmetric matrices, each of which depends affinely on the decision variables.
