TL;DR: These studies reveal that T. ammi is a source of medicinally active compounds and have various pharmacological effects; hence, this drug encourage finding its new therapeutic uses.
Abstract: Trachyspermum ammi commonly known as ‘Ajwain’ is distributed throughout India and it is mostly cultivated in Gujarat and Rajasthan. The plant is used traditionally as a stimulant, carminative, flatulence, atonic dyspepsia, diarrhoea, abdominal tumours, abdominal pains, piles, and bronchial problems, lack of appetite, galactogogue, asthma and amenorrhoea. Medicinally, it has been proven to possess various pharmacological activities like antifungal, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antinociceptive, cytotoxic activity, Hypolipidaemic, Antihypertensive, antispasmodic, broncho-dilating actions, Antilithiasis, diuretic, Abortifacient, Antitussive, Nematicidal, Anthelmintic and Antifilarial Activity. Further, studies reveal the presence of various phytochemical constituents mainly carbohydrates, glycosides, saponins, phenolic compounds, volatile oil (thymol, γ-terpinene, para-cymene, and α- and β-pinene), protein, fat, fibre and mineral matter containing calcium, phosphorous, iron and nicotinic acid. These studies reveal that T. ammi is a source of medicinally active compounds and have various pharmacological effects; hence, this drug encourage finding its new therapeutic uses.
TL;DR: The future of sustained release products is promising in some area like chronopharmacokinetic system, targeted drug delivery system, mucoadhesive system, particulate system that provide high promise and acceptability.
Abstract: Among all drug delivery system, oral drug delivery is the most preferred route for administration of various drugs. Sustained release products provide advantage over conventional dosage form by optimising biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics and pharmacokinetics properties of drug. Thus sustained release formulation provides important way to decrease the side effect of drug by preventing the fluctuation of the therapeutic concentration of the drug in the body. Availability of wide variety of polymer and frequent dosing interval helps the scientist to develop sustained release product. These dosage forms are available in extended release, targeted release, delayed release, prolonged action dosage form. Some factors like molecular size, diffusivity, pKa-ionization constant, release rate, dose and stability, duration of action, absorption window, therapeutic index, protein binding, and metabolism affect the design of sustained release formulation. These formulations are evaluated for weight variation, friability, hardness, thickness, in vitro release rate etc. The future of sustained release products is promising in some area like chronopharmacokinetic system, targeted drug delivery system, mucoadhesive system, particulate system that provide high promise and acceptability. This article contains various types, evaluation and factors affecting the design of sustained release formulation.
TL;DR: The present review is an attempt to generate interest among the masses regarding its immense potent ial in preventing and treating the several diseases.
Abstract: Plectranthus amboinicus (Lour) Spreng belongs to family Lamiaceae, known as country borage in English. It is large succulent aromatic perennial herb, shrubby below, hispidly villous or tomentose. It is found throughout India, Ceylon and Moluccas. The leaves of the plant are bitter, acrid and were being widely used traditionally for various purposes. The plant has been worked out very well and isolated several chemical constituents and had shown various biological properties. This review is an effort to compile all the information reported on its phytochemical and pharmacological activities. The present review is an attempt to generate interest among the masses regarding its immense potent ial in preventing and treating the several diseases.
TL;DR: The survey results revealed that 88% of the responders were aware of existence of ADR reporting and monitoring system in India and 23% had repor ted suspected ADR to any of the pharmacovigilance centre located in India.
Abstract: Of the 32 survey questionnaires circulated, 27 filled questionnaires were returned giving overall response rate of 84.37 %. Our survey results revealed that 88% of the responders were aware of existence of ADR reporting and monitoring system in India and 23% of them had repor ted suspected ADR to any of the pharmacovigilance centre located in India. If the ADR reporting and monitoring system is implemented, it has been found to be useful by 72% of responders, and 95% of the responders opined that the ADR reporting and monitoring system had been benefiting the patient. 92% responders told that pharmacist assistance in detection, reporting and management of ADR is usefull. Main factors that discouraged ADR reporting were Time consuming, tedious, mild reactions and absence of fees. Imparting knowledge and awareness of ADR reporting among medical practitioners would bring the reporting culture among medical practitioners and increase the reporting rates of ADR. Pharmacists have a greater role to play in the area of pharmacovigilance.
TL;DR: The aim of this article is to compile and explore the potency of Acacia catechu willd in management of various diseases.
Abstract: The medicinal plants are widely used by the traditional medical practitioners for curing various diseases in their day to day practice. Acacia catechu willd (AC).(Family: Fabaceae and subfamily: Mimosoideae) known as Black cutch has a diverse pharmacological actions and has been widely used in Ayurveda for processing of various formulations in Rasashastra. The main chemical constituents of Acacia Catechu are catechin, epecatechin, epigallocatechin, epicatechin gallate, phloroglucin, protocatechuic acid, quarcetin, poriferasterol glucosides, lupenone, procyanidin, kaemferol,L-arabinose, D-galactose.D-rhamnose andaldobiuronic acid, afzelchin gum, mineral and taxifolin. Heartwood is used to yield concentrated aqueous extract i.e. Cutch and Katha. The cutch and Katha (extract) possess astringent, cooling and digestive properties; and is commonly used in ayurvedic preparations. It is useful in cold and cough, ulcers, boils and eruptions of the skin, bleeding piles, uterine haemorrhages, atonic dyspepsia, chronic bronchitis etc. Based upon the scientific literatures, the aim of this article is to compile and explore the potency of Acacia catechu willd in management of various diseases.
