Molecular mechanism for antibody-dependent enhancement of coronavirus entry
Yushun Wan,Jian Shang,Shihui Sun,Wanbo Tai,Jing Chen,Qibin Geng,Lei He,Yuehong Chen,Jianming Wu,Zhengli Shi,Yusen Zhou,Lanying Du,Fang Li +12 more
TL;DR: A neutralizing monoclonal antibody, which targets the receptor-binding domain of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) coronavirus spike, mediates viral entry using pseudovirus entry and biochemical assays, and results showed that MAb binds to the virus surface spike, allowing it to undergo conformational changes and become prone to proteolytic activation.
Blockade of the C5a-C5aR axis alleviates lung damage in hDPP4-transgenic mice infected with MERS-CoV
Yuting Jiang,Guangyu Zhao,Nianping Song,Pei Li,Yuehong Chen,Yan Guo,Junfeng Li,Lanying Du,Shibo Jiang,Shibo Jiang,Renfeng Guo,Shihui Sun,Yusen Zhou +12 more
TL;DR: The data indicate that dysregulated host immune responses contribute to the severe outcome of MERS; excessive complement activation, triggered by MERS-CoV infection, promote such dysregulation; and blockade of the C5a–C5aR axis lead to the decreased tissue damage induced by Mers-Cov infection, as manifested by reduced apoptosis and T cell regeneration in the spleen.

A novel nanobody targeting middle east respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) receptor-binding domain has potent cross-neutralizing activity and protective efficacy against MERS-CoV
Guangyu Zhao,Lei He,Shihui Sun,Hongjie Qiu,Wanbo Tai,Jiawei Chen,Jiangfan Li,Yuehong Chen,Yan Guo,Yufei Wang,Jian Shang,Kaiyuan Ji,Ruiwen Fan,Enqi Du,Shibo Jiang,Fang Li,Lanying Du,Yusen Zhou +17 more
TL;DR: This study proves the feasibility of producing cost-effective, potent, and broad-spectrum Nbs against MERS-CoV and has produced Nbs with great potentials as anti-MERS- coV therapeutics.

Rational Design of Zika Virus Subunit Vaccine with Enhanced Efficacy.
Wanbo Tai,Jiawei Chen,Guangyu Zhao,Qibin Geng,Lei He,Yuehong Chen,Yusen Zhou,Fang Li,Lanying Du +8 more
TL;DR: The results of this study reveal that an intrinsic limitation of subunit vaccines is their artificially exposed immunodominant nonneutralizing epitopes, which can be overcome through glycan shielding.

C5a receptor1 inhibition alleviates influenza virus-induced acute lung injury.
Nianping Song,Pei Li,Yuting Jiang,Hong Sun,Jing Cui,Guangyu Zhao,Dan Li,Yan Guo,Yuehong Chen,Jimin Gao,Shihui Sun,Yusen Zhou +11 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the C5a‐C5aR1 axis plays an important role in the outcome of ALI induced by influenza virus infection and that regulation of complement activation, particularly the C 5aR 1 inhibition, is a promising intervention and adjunctive treatment for influenza virus‐induced ALI.
