The specification relates to a telemetering apparatus comprising a generator which generates at least a single frequency rf signal, a transponder for receiving that signal and for amplitude modulating it in accordance with information selected for transmission, an antenna on the transponder for reflecting the amplitude modulated signal, and a receiver which is preferably located at the generator. The receiver processes the signal to determine the information carried thereby.

Interrogation, and detection system

A temperature transducer having a small battery powered oscillator circuit packaged in a portable housing with a relatively slender probe projecting from the housing for insertion into food products or the like. A temperature responsive element is mounted at the tip of the probe and is coupled to a modulation switching circuit inside the housing for periodically activating the oscillator for a time duration which is proportional to the temperature of the temperature responsive element. A plurality of such transducers are used in the telemetry system, each having a different frequency of oscillation, and each being inserted into a food product to be processed, e.g. into a ham to be smoke. The output signal of the individual transducers are picked up by a multichannel receiver outside the smokehouse, and the time duration modulation signals are translated into analog signal levels by a digital-to-analog converter. These analog signal levers are analyzed in an output circuit to produce output signals for controlling various functions, such as, the temperature of the smokehouse, the sounding of an alarm if any of the hams exceed a predetermined inner temperature, and the indicating of the inner temperature of any given ham without opening the smokehouse or interrupting the smoking process.

A portable system for measuring a condition, particularly temperature, and transmitting a signal indicative of the condition to a remote location. A portable insulating and protective dry container adapted for use in extreme temperature environments, such as occasioned within a furnace or oven, houses a small transmitter. The transmitter is connected to a bridgetype transducer responsive to the condition to produce a pulse width modulated output signal that is transmitted to a remote receiving and monitoring location.

A temperature sensing switching circuit producing a high frequency output signal indicative of the ambient temperature of a temperature responsive resistance element, having a large change in resistance over a small change in temperature. The switching circuit controls a feedback heater for artifically heating the resistance element to produce the small change in temperature to reverse the operation of the switching circuit. The repeated switching of said switching circuit provides an output signal which has a frequency indicative of the ambient temperature.

Information format converter receives input information represented by variable input resistance and converts this input information into an output signal whose frequency varies in accordance with the input information. A charge storage means charges over a time period in accordance with the resistance value of the input resistance and provides a signal to an output means, a bi-stable level detector, having two output threshold levels which changes state between the two levels when said storage means reaches either of the two levels. The converter can be connected so that the frequency of the output signal varies in direct proportion with the resistance value of the input or so that the period of the output signal varies in direct proportion with the resistance value of the input. The converter also uses a new bi-stable level detector which eliminates the requirement that precision reference voltages be used in the converter. The converter can also be used as a voltage waveform generator.
