The embodiment of the invention provides a method and device for awakening terminal equipment. The terminal equipment involves first address information. The method includes the steps that when the terminal equipment is in a standby mode, a data packet is received; whether the data packet is a wake-up packet is judged; if the data packet is the wake-up packet, whether the first address information is identical with second address information is judged; the wake-up packet comprises the second address information; if the first address information is identical with the second address information, the terminal equipment is controlled to enter a startup mode. The method and device are used for getting rid of dependency on a remote controller when the terminal equipment is awakened from the standby mode.
