The Stirling engine (100) is united with the internal combustion engine (20). A heater (105) that the Stirling engine (100) includes is disposed in an exhaust manifold (28) of the internal combustion engine (20). With this configuration, it is possible to restrict reduction in the power output from the exhaust heat recovery means.

After starting, the steam consumption of the turbine 9 is increased with an increase of revolution, and if the capacity of the boiler 10 is sufficient to rise up to the rated revolution, the rated revolution during the emergency running can be easily reached. When the rated revolution is reached, a load is shifted not to be asynchronous with the shaft generator 7 and the starting is completed. Accordingly, the emergency running motor can be started for sure without adding any special installation.

PURPOSE:To provide a constant frequency characteristic for a generated AC power when steam power is excessive or insufficient by providing in parallel stepping motors respectively having a centrifugal control valve and a reverse- operation centrifugal control valve between a main shaft and a generator. CONSTITUTION:Slipping clutches 14, 20 are opened by manually operating solenoid valves 30, 31. When a main engine 1 is driven, a propeller 3 is driven through a main shaft 2, a steam turbine 7 is driven by an exhaust gas boiler 5, and a voltage is generated by a generator 8 coupled to the turbine. The clutches 14, 20 are coupled through shafts 13, 19 and gears 11, 12, 18 to the shaft 2, and through a shaft 15 and gears 22, 23 to a motor 8. The clutches 14, 20 respectively have a centrifugal control valve 14-1 and a reverse-operation centrifugal control valve 20-1. When the steam power is excessive or insufficient, the power is inputted or outputted at the shaft 2, thereby providing a constant frequency characteristic for the generated AC power.

When the main engine is operated at a low speed which is insufficient to drive the turbine 6, the generator is driven directly by the main engine through the step-up gear 5. The direct driving of the generator by the main engine is possible over a wide range of main engine loading, since multiple-step type step- up gear is interposed between the generator and the main engine.
