The Impact of Probiotic Supplementation on Cognitive, Pathological and Metabolic Markers in a Transgenic Mouse Model of Alzheimer’s Disease
Thomas S. Webberley,Giulia Masetti,Ryan J. Bevan,J. Kerry-Smith,A A Jack,Daryn Robert Michael,Sophie Thomas,Maria Glymenaki,Jian Li,Julie A. K. McDonald,Daniel John,James E. Morgan,Julian R. Marchesi,Mark Andrew Good,Sue Plummer,Timothy P. Hughes +15 more
TL;DR: The group receiving the probiotic performed better in the novel object recognition test and displayed higher hippocampal neuronal spine density than the control group at the end of the 12 weeks intervention period, illustrating the potential of the Lab4b probiotic as a neuroprotective agent.
Impaired Mineral Ion Metabolism in a Mouse Model of Targeted Calcium-Sensing Receptor (CaSR) Deletion from Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
Martin Schepelmann,Marianna Ranieri,Irene Lopez-Fernandez,Thomas S. Webberley,Sarah C. Brennan,Polina Yarova,João Graça,Umar-Khetaab Hanif,Christian Müller,Teresa Manhardt,Martina Salzmann,Helen Quasnichka,Sally A. Price,Donald T. Ward,Thierry Gilbert,Vladimir Macko,Robert A. Fenton,Amanda Herberger,Jenna Hwong,Christian Santa Maria,Chia-Ling Tu,Enikö Kállay,Giovanna Valenti,Wenhan Chang,Daniela Riccardi +24 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that, in addition to CaSR's established role in the parathyroid-kidney-bone axis, expression of CaSR in vascular smooth muscle cells directly contributes to total body mineral ion homeostasis.

Does flow culture impact upon gut-probiotic interactions: A comparison with static culture
Daryn Michael,J. Kerry-Smith,Thomas S. Webberley,K. R. Murphy,Sue Plummer,Louka Parry,J. Marchesi +6 more
TL;DR: In this article , dynamic flow conditions were applied to 21-day cultured Caco-2 intestinal epithelial cells and their response compared with statically cultured counterparts, showing increased viability, mucin production and pH tolerance compared to cells under static conditions.
The gastrointestinal status of healthy adults: a post hoc assessment of the impact of three distinct probiotics.
Benjamin H. Mullish,Daryn Michael,Thomas S. Webberley,Daniel John,Gomathi Ramanathan,Sue Plummer,D. Wang,J. Marchesi +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the outcomes of a post hoc analysis of recorded daily gastrointestinal events and bowel habits completed by healthy adults participating in a placebo-controlled, single-centre, randomised, double-blind, quadruple-arm probiotic tolerability study were reported.
Assessment of Lab4P Probiotic Effects on Cognition in 3xTg-AD Alzheimer’s Disease Model Mice and the SH-SY5Y Neuronal Cell Line
Thomas S. Webberley,Ryan J. Bevan,J. Kerry-Smith,Jordanna Dally,Daryn Michael,Sophie Thomas,Meg Rees,James E. Morgan,Julian Marchesi,Mark Andrew Good,Sue Plummer,Duolao Wang,T. R. Hughes +12 more
TL;DR: This article assessed the neuroprotective potential of the Lab4P probiotic consortium in both age and metabolically challenged 3xTg-AD mice and in human SH-SY5Y cell culture models of neurodegeneration.
