A reinforced twin-sheet thermoformed pallet is disclosed which has a substantially planar load-bearing member which is formed from an upper sheet of thermoplastic material and a lower sheet of thermoplastic material located generally in fixed parallel relationship to each other. A plurality of concave depressions in the load-bearing member form feet which depend from the load-bearing member. Each foot is formed as a downwardly depending portion of each of the two sheets of material joined together. Each foot has an inner foot floor formed from the upper sheet and an outer foot floor formed from the lower sheet. A quantity of reinforcing thermoplastic material is located between the inner and outer walls of each foot and is fused to the upper and lower sheets to form an integral foot floor which is substantially parallel to the load-bearing member. The thickness of the foot floor is substantially greater than the combined thicknesses of the upper and lower sheets. Preferably the upper and lower sheets and the reinforcing thermoplastic material are all composed of the same thermoplastic material. The pallet has reinforced feet of substantially increased thickness which extend the usable life of the pallet. This pallet, being composed of a single plastic material, may be economically crushed and recycled.

Plastic reinforced thermoformed pallet

A process is disclosed for producing reinforced twin-sheet thermoformed articles comprising the steps of heating first and second sheets of thermoplastic material; forming the sheets in molds; heating a reinforcing insert of thermoplastic material; placing the heated insert on the first sheet in its mold at the location to be reinforced; pressing the second sheet into contact with the heated first sheet and the heated insert to form the insert between the sheets so that a fusion of the thermoplastic sheets and the insert takes place to produce a reinforced section of the article having a desired shape and thickness. Alternative processes are disclosed wherein a heated quantity of thermoplastic liquid material is extruded or injected between the first and second sheets within the first and second molds either by inserting the liquid material before the molds are closed or by injecting it through one of the molds. Also disclosed are twin-sheet thermoformed articles with reinforced sections which are thicker than the combined thicknesses of the two thermoformed sheets at a particular location. The articles may advantageously be reinforced with plastic identical to the plastic of the two sheets. The articles are also easily recycled as they are entirely plastic with no non-plastic matter included.

A new and improved knockdown pallet structure comprises a relatively flexible base panel which is fabricated from a suitable woven plastic material, such as, for example, polypropylene, and a pair of laterally spaced, longitudinally extending pockets are secured upon undersurface portions of the base panel so as to accommodate rigid support members, which may comprise rigid thermoplastic tubes or pipes, for accommodating the fork tines of a forklift truck when a pallet structure, having a palletized load disposed thereon, is to be lifted and transported. A pair of semi-rigid cross-brace members are respectively pivotally secured at first end portions thereof upon the pallet structure so as to be movable between a first operative position, at which the pair of semi-rigid cross-brace members will be disposed in a longitudinally spaced, laterally oriented mode, and a second position at which the pair of semi-rigid cross-brace members will be disposed in a laterally spaced, longitudinally oriented mode so as to be disposed parallel to the laterally spaced, longitudinally extending rigid support members in order to permit the entire pallet structure to be rolled up, folded, or otherwise knocked-down, for compact storage and transportation purposes.

Knockdown pallet structure, and method of erecting and knocking-down the same

A system of facilitating the handling of bagged cargo normally stored in any applicable facility on pallets wherein the system includes the formation of elongated passages through the provision of removable or fixed channel members disposed in sandwiched relation between the under portion of the bagged cargo and the supporting surface of the pallet and the inclusion of a plurality of sling members positionable along the length of the passages and connectable to a lifting crane when it is desired to vertically transport the cargo as by lifting crane to the hold of a cargo ship. The channel members are adaptable to the pallet without modifying the construction or necessitating the discarding of standard pallet construction in favor of newly designed or structured pallets.

System to permit cargo to be pre-slung after warehouse palletization

A pallet having a substantially inelastic flexible load-supporting platform and a plurality of support blocks for maintaining the platform above a ground support. To transport the pallet and its load from place to place, a lifting assembly has a pair of forks for fitting in channels between the support blocks. The forks are laterally extendable with respect to each other, so that a side of each fork can engage a facing side of a support block to maintain the support block and a load thereon in a substantially upright position.
