I use the direct far-field method to measure the mode-field diameter of a single-mode fiber with an expanded uncertainty of 30 nm, with a coverage factor of 2. For a step-index fiber with a mode-field diameter of approximately 9 mum, the major sources of uncertainty are nonlinearity in the electronics, angular errors and scattered light in the apparatus, and the polarization and noncircularity of the mode of the fiber. The paper concludes by showing an inconsistency in the derivation of the far-field expression for mode-field diameter.

In this paper we present the fabrication of optical mode field adaptors for fiber optical communications using fiber splicing machine in special newly developed modus. We developed mode field transformers with radii from 5 � m to 80 � m the end of standard singlemode and multimode glass fibers, characterized by far field and near field methods. Easy and reliable fabrication of the radii with low standard deviation ￻ = 0.16-0.97 � m or better than 3,2% relative to the mean radius has been achieved.

Fabrication of Integrated Optical Mode Field Adapters at the End of Single/Multimode Fibers Using Fiber Splicing Machine

The resolution parameter of CCD is the factor which limits the spatial resolution of optoelectronic system. The using of high-resolution CCD is not always possible, especially for measurements in IR wavelength (1350nm) band. The purpose of given work is increasing the spatial resolution of the newly introduced Medianfield method which is focused on beam profile measurements for fiber-chip coupling systems by means of processing low-resolution images sequences. The results of numeric experiments show that the given image restoration method makes it possible the super-resolution restoration of images for possible transmission of information about high spatial frequencies, through diffraction limited optical system. Theoretical assessment allows to predict required conditions for this transmission. Results of experiments for super-resolution images which differ by sub-pixel shift show possibility of theoretical prediction optimal parameters for image (signal) restoration (required number of processed images, point spread function and etc.)

In this paper a new method for spotsizemeasurement for singlemode optical components is presented. Based from the classical farfieldmethod where the measurements are made circular, the mounting of the used rotary stages and the long measurement time are great disadvantages. In this paper a new planar method is described which overcomes these problems. Eased on the measurement of a single mode fibre in accordance with ITU Recommendation G.652 the efficiency is demonstrated and discussed.
