A backlight assembly includes a light guide plate (LGP) having a stepped portion formed at a corner of the LGP, an optical sheet disposed over the LGP and a receiving container receiving the LGP and the optical sheet. The receiving container includes a bottom plate, first through fourth sidewalls and a first LGP fixing portion. The second sidewall is adjacent to the first sidewall. The third sidewall faces the first sidewall. The fourth sidewall faces the second sidewall. The first through fourth sidewalls are extended upwardly from edge portions of the bottom plate. The first LGP fixing portion is formed at the first sidewall such that the LGP fixing portion corresponds to the stepped portion of the LGP. Therefore, a display device is easily assembled. Furthermore, a defilement that may occur during an assembling process may be reduced to enhance productivity.

In a spread illuminating apparatus including: an LED at a side surface of a light conductor plate; and an FPC having a land formed on a side thereof for mounting the LED, throughholes are formed at the land, and solder is contained at least partly in each of the throughholes, whereby the LED can be mounted solidly on the FPC with a high precision in height position from the FPC, and at the same time the heat emitted from the LED can be efficiently conducted to a conductive pattern at the rear side of the FPC through an electrode terminal of the LED and the throughholes filled with the solder composed of a metallic material having a high heat conductance.

A backlight unit includes a chassis, a plurality of LED light sources, and a reflection member. The chassis includes a bottom plate and side plates, and has an opening on a front surface side. The LED light sources are arranged in a matrix on a front surface of the bottom plate of the chassis. The reflection member includes a plurality of through holes through which the respective LED light sources are passed and side wall portions having inclined surfaces on the sides thereof. The side wall portions provided in the end portion of the bottom plate of the chassis has a height greater than a height of the side wall portions provided in the middle portion of the bottom plate, and surround each of the LED light sources. The inclined surfaces lead light from the light sources toward the opening side of the chassis.

A backlight device includes LEDs, a light guide plate, an LED board, and a light blocking portion. The light guide plate includes a side surface configured as a light entrance surface through which light from the LEDs enters and a plate surface configured as a light exit surface through which light exits the light guide plate. The LED board on which the LEDs are mounted and at least a portion of which is a light guide plate overlapping portion is on a light exit surface side. The light guide plate overlapping portion overlaps a light entering edge portion that is an edge portion of the light guide plate close to the light entrance surface. The light blocking portion is at the light guide plate overlapping portion of the LED board and between the light guide plate overlapping portion and the light entering edge portion of the light guide plate.

Lighting device and display device

An area light source device has a diffusion plate and a prism sheet stacked on a light guide plate, and a light source disposed opposite an end face of the light guide plate. Light emitted from the light source is introduced to an inside of the light guide plate from the end face. Area light emission is obtained by outputting the light diffused in the light guide plate from the diffusion plate and the prism sheet through a front face disposed opposite the diffusion plate. The light guide plate includes a light guide section that includes the end face disposed opposite the light source, a light emitting section that is disposed opposite the diffusion plate, and a joining section that joins the light guide section and the light emitting section. The front surface in the joining section includes an inclined surface that is gradually retreated toward a rear surface on an opposite side from the light guide section toward the light emitting section. The front faces of the light guide section and the joining section are covered with a light shielding member. The light shielding member is fixed to the diffusion plate without interposing the prism sheet therebetween. The light shielding member and the inclined surface are arranged to allow air to be interposed therebetween.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a structure of an illumination device capable of reducing the light shielding width on an inclined surface part without generating spots at an edge part of an illumination range. SOLUTION: This illumination device is provided at the end part with a light source 11, and a light incident surface 13a configured into a plate shape and facing a light discharging surface 11a of the light source, and includes a light guide plate 13 provided with a light-emitting part 13b at least at a part of a light-emitting surface side for emitting light which is made incident inside from the light incident surface and propagated. Between the light incident surface and the light-emitting part, the light guide plate includes the incident surface part 13d in which the thickness of the light guide plate is made thick on the side of the light source and made thin on the side of the light-emitting part. An inclined angle θ formed by the surface of the light-emitting part and the inclined surface part on the light guide plate is large on the side of the light incident surface and small on the side of the light-emitting part. SOLUTION: A backlight unit 50 as a lighting device includes a surface light source, in which a plurality of LEDs 52 as a plurality of light sources are arrayed on a circuit board 51, a diffuser plate 55 as an optical member, which is arranged opposite to the light-emitting side of the surface light source, and a plurality of spacers 53 for maintaining an interval between the surface light source and the diffuser plate 55. The plurality of spacers 53 are arranged on the circuit board 51 so as to have a part in which the arrangement density per unit area is dense and a part in which the arrangement density per unit area is sparse.
