A color CCD camera 58 is placed on a normal line H through a center P of a sample window, and 30 deg. and 70 deg. reflected light from the sample at a plurality of azimuth angles is reflected toward a condenser lens 59 of the camera by mirror sets 61, 62 comprising a plurality of flat mirrors 61a, 62a placed with equal intervals on a circumference with the normal line H as the center. Reflected light at all measurement points defined by the reflection angle and the azimuth angle is recorded in one image by the mirror sets 61, 62, and also a casing has a small diameter. Use of the CCD camera 58 allows adjustment of sensitivity only with adjustment of shutter speed, resulting in expansion of a dynamic range.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color measuring apparatus by which the display of measured data is easy to see without lowering a measuring accuracy, by acquiring color data in a plurality of measuring points with an image processing means, and averaging the data respectively in three points, i.e., a highlight-side position, a shade-side position and an entire position, by a computing means so as to be displayed. SOLUTION: A mirror set 61 and a mirror set 62 are installed near a sample window 57 at a casing 51. In the mirror sets 61, 62, eight each of flat plate mirrors are arranged so as to be divided equally in the circumferential direction while a normal line H is used as the center. Beams of light from a total of 17 measuring points, i.e., eight each of beams of reflected light at 30 deg. and beams of reflected light at 70 deg. by, e.g. the mirror sets 61, 62 and a beam of reflected light at 90 deg. on the normal line, are fetched by a CCD camera 58. A computing part at an image processor 70 finds the color characteristic such as the hue, the brightness, the chroma, the color difference or the like of every measuring point on the basis of the beams of light received by the CCD camera 58, it divides the found color characteristic into three parts, i.e., a highlight-side part in a direction opposite to irradiated light, a shade-side part in the same direction and an entire part, so as to be averaged, and the color characteristic is displayed on a monitor 80.

CONSTITUTION:When it is judged that the specular reflectivity measuring head 25 is not set at the specified attitude and position with respect to a painted surface based on the reflected stripe pattern, whose image is picked up with the measuring head 25, the attitude and the position of the measuring head 25 are finely adjusted by operating a robot 50. The property of the pained surface at the specified measuring point is sequentially inspected automatically with this apparatus for automatically inspecting the property of the painted surface.
