Age-associated changes in skeletal muscles and their effect on mobility: an operational diagnosis of sarcopenia
Fulvio Lauretani,Cosimo Roberto Russo,Stefania Bandinelli,Benedetta Bartali,Chiara Cavazzini,Angelo Di Iorio,Anna Maria Corsi,Taina Rantanen,Jack M. Guralnik,Luigi Ferrucci +9 more
TL;DR: Optimal cutoff values that can be used in the clinical practice to identify older persons with poor mobility were developed and lay the basis for a cost-effective, clinical marker of sarcopenia based on a measure of isometric handgrip strength.

Midlife hand grip strength as a predictor of old age disability.
Taina Rantanen,J. M. Guralnik,Daniel J. Foley,K. H. Masaki,Suzanne G. Leveille,J D Curb,Laurens P. White +6 more
TL;DR: Among healthy 45- to 68-year-old men, hand grip strength was highly predictive of functional limitations and disability 25 years later, suggesting good muscle strength in midlife may protect people from old age disability by providing a greater safety margin above the threshold of disability.

Sarcopenic obesity: definition, cause and consequences.
Sari Stenholm,Tamara B. Harris,Taina Rantanen,Marjolein Visser,Stephen B. Kritchevsky,Luigi Ferrucci +5 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the risk of adverse outcomes, such as functional limitation and mortality, is better estimated by considering jointly obesity and muscle strength rather than Obesity and muscle mass and the term ‘sarcopenic obesity’ should be revisited.
Definition of treatment goals for moderate to severe psoriasis: a European consensus
Ulrich Mrowietz,Knud Kragballe,Kristian Reich,Ph.I. Spuls,Christopher E.M. Griffiths,Alexander Nast,J. Franke,Christina Antoniou,Petr Arenberger,Flora Balieva,M. Bylaite,Osvaldo Correia,E. TL;DR: This programme defines the severity of plaque psoriasis for the first time using a formal consensus of 19 European experts and to improve patient care and mitigate the problem of undertreatment.
Muscle Strength and Body Mass Index as Long-Term Predictors of Mortality in Initially Healthy Men
Taina Rantanen,Tamara B. Harris,Suzanne G. Leveille,M. Visser,M. Visser,Daniel J. Foley,Kamal Masaki,Jack M. Guralnik +7 more
TL;DR: In healthy middle-aged men, long-term mortality risk was associated with grip strength at baseline, independent of BMI, and the possible interpretation of the finding is that early life influences on muscle strength may have long- term implications for mortality.
