TL;DR: AMBER as mentioned in this paper is one of the VLTI instruments that combines up to three beams with low, moderate and high spectral resolutions in order to provide milli-arcsecond spatial resolution for compact astrophysical sources in the near-infrared wavelength domain.
A hot compact dust disk around a massive young stellar object
Stefan Kraus,Karl-Heinz Hofmann,Karl M. Menten,Dieter Schertl,Gerd Weigelt,Friedrich Wyrowski,Anthony Meilland,Anthony Meilland,Karine Perraut,Romain Petrov,S. Robbe-Dubois,Peter Schilke,Leonardo Testi +12 more
TL;DR: Near-infrared interferometric observations that spatially resolve the astronomical-unit-scale distribution of hot material around a high-mass (∼20 solar masses) young stellar object show an elongated structure with a size of ∼13 × 19 astronomical units, consistent with a disk seen at an inclination angle of ∼45°.
Structure of Herbig AeBe disks at the milliarcsecond scale A statistical survey in the H band using PIONIER-VLTI
Bernard Lazareff,Jean-Phillipe Berger,Jacques Kluska,J.-B. Le Bouquin,Myriam Benisty,Fabien Malbet,Chris Koen,C. Pinte,C. Pinte,W. F. Thi,Olivier Absil,Fabien Baron,Alain Delboulbé,Gilles Duvert,Andrea Isella,Laurent Jocou,Attila Juhasz,Stefan Kraus,R. Lachaume,R. Lachaume,François Ménard,Rafael Millan-Gabet,John D. Monnier,T. Moulin,Karine Perraut,S. Rochat,Ferréol Soulez,Ferréol Soulez,Michel Tallon,Éric Thiébaut,Wesley A. Traub,G. Zins +31 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the PIONIER/VLTI interferometer to resolve the radial and vertical structures of the Herbig AeBe disks at scales of order one au and the properties of the dust grains.
Tracing the young massive high-eccentricity binary system Theta 1 Orionis C through periastron passage
Stefan Kraus,Gerd Weigelt,Yu. Yu. Balega,José A. Docobo,Karl-Heinz Hofmann,Th. Preibisch,Dieter Schertl,Vakhtang S. Tamazian,Thomas Driebe,Keiichi Ohnaka,Romain Petrov,Markus Schöller,Michael D. Smith +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a near-infrared (H -a ndK-band) long-baseline interferometry with the ESO 3.6 m and the BTA 6 m telescopes (B and V -band) to reconstruct the first VLTI/AMBER closure-phase aperture synthesis image, showing the θ 1 Ori C system.
No Sun-like dynamo on the active star ζ Andromedae from starspot asymmetry
Rachael M. Roettenbacher,John D. Monnier,Heidi Korhonen,Heidi Korhonen,Alicia Aarnio,Fabien Baron,Fabien Baron,Xiao Che,Robert O. Harmon,Zs. Kővári,Stefan Kraus,Stefan Kraus,Gail Schaefer,Guillermo Torres,Ming Zhao,Ming Zhao,T. ten Brummelaar,Judit Sturmann,L. Sturmann +18 more
TL;DR: In this imaging of the old, magnetically active star ζ Andromedae, a dark polar spot is seen in each of two observation epochs, whereas lower-latitude spot structures in both hemispheres do not persist between observations, revealing global starspot asymmetries.
