In the Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET) environment, recognizing traffic accident events in the driving videos captured by vehicle-mounted cameras is an essential task. Generally, traffic accidents have a short duration in driving videos, and the backgrounds of driving videos are dynamic and complex. These make traffic accident detection quite challenging. To effectively and efficiently detect accidents from the driving videos, we propose an accident detection approach based on spatio–temporal feature encoding with a multilayer neural network. Specifically, the multilayer neural network is used to encode the temporal features of video for clustering the video frames. From the obtained frame clusters, we detect the border frames as the potential accident frames. Then, we capture and encode the spatial relationships of the objects detected from these potential accident frames to confirm whether these frames are accident frames. The extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves promising detection accuracy and efficiency for traffic accident detection, and meets the real-time detection requirement in the VANET environment.

To retrieve images of similar diseases that lead to similar diagnosis.To provide improved diagnosis of diseases in medical applications.To guide the physician by predicting the disease of large number of dermatological cases. This method presents extraction of effective color and shape features for the analysis of dermatology images. We employ three phases of operation in order to perform efficient retrieval of images of skin lesions. Our proposed algorithm used color and shape feature vectors and the features are normalized using Min-Max normalization. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique for multi-class classification is used to converge the search space more efficiently. The results using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve proved that the proposed architecture is highly contributed to computer-aided diagnosis of skin lesions. Experiments on a set of 1450 images yielded a specificity of 98.22% and a sensitivity of 94%. Our empirical evaluation has a superior retrieval and diagnosis performance when compared to the performance of other works. We present explicit combinations of feature vectors corresponding to healthy and lesion skin.

Content-based image retrieval techniques for the analysis of dermatological lesions using particle swarm optimization technique

In recent years, a rapid increase in the size of digital image databases has been observed. Everyday gigabytes of images are generated. Consequently, the search for the relevant information from image and video databases has become more challenging. To get accurate retrieval results is still an unsolved problem and an active research area. Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) is a process in which for a given query image, similar images are retrieved from a large image database based on their content similarity. A number of techniques have been suggested by researchers for content-based image retrieval. In this chapter, a review of some state-of-the-art retrieval techniques is provided.

Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is also known as Query By Image Content (QBIC) is the application of computer vision techniques and it gives solution to the image retrieval problem such as searching digital images in large databases. The need to have a versatile and general purpose Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system for a very large image database has attracted focus of many researchers of information-technology-giants and leading academic institutions for development of CBIR techniques. Due to the development of network and multimedia technologies, users are not fulfilled by the traditional information retrieval techniques. So nowadays the Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) are becoming a source of exact and fast retrieval. Texture and color are the important features of Content Based Image Retrieval Systems. In the proposed method, images can be retrieved using color-based, texture-based and color and texture-based. Algorithms such as auto color correlogram and correlation for extracting color based images, Gaussian mixture models for extracting texture based images. In this study, Query point movement is used as a relevance feedback technique for Content Based Image Retrieval systems. Thus the proposed method achieves better performance and accuracy in retrieving images.

A new content based image retrieval system using gmm and relevance feedback

Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) is a new but widely adopted method for finding images from vast and unannotated image databases. As the network and development of multimedia technologies are becoming more popular, users are not satisfied with the traditional information retrieval techniques. So nowadays the content based image retrieval (CBIR) are becoming a source of exact and fast retrieval. In recent years, a variety of techniques have been developed to improve the performance of CBIR. Data clustering is an unsupervised method for extraction hidden pattern from huge data sets. With large data sets, there is possibility of high dimensionality. Having both accuracy and efficiency for high dimensional data sets with enormous number of samples is a challenging arena. In this paper the clustering techniques are discussed and analysed. Also, we propose a method HDK that uses more than one clustering technique to improve the performance of CBIR.This method makes use of hierachical and divide and conquer KMeans clustering technique with equivalency and compatible relation concepts to improve the performance of the K-Means for using in high dimensional datasets. It also introduced the feature like color, texture and shape for accurate and effective retrieval system.
