Photodynamic therapy for acne vulgaris with topical 5-aminolevulinic acid.
TL;DR: After obtaining informed consent, the patient was treated with topical 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) and the affected area did not present any new acne during a follow-up period of 8 months.
Dyschromatosis symmetrica hereditaria (reticulate acropigmentation of Dohi): report of a Japanese family with the condition and a literature review of 185 cases.
TL;DR: 185 cases of DSH, most of them reported in Japanese, are reviewed and unique clinical, histological and genetic features of this condition are delineated.

Ascorbic acid preferentially enhances type I and III collagen gene transcription in human skin fibroblasts
Shingo Tajima,Sheldon R. Pinnell +1 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that ascorbic acid preferentially enhanced type I and III collagen transcription in human skin fibroblasts.

Ascorbic acid and transforming growth factor-beta 1 increase collagen biosynthesis via different mechanisms: coordinate regulation of pro alpha 1(I) and Pro alpha 1(III) collagens.
TL;DR: In the presence of both ascorbic acid and TGF-beta 1 the steady-state RNA levels did not increase in an additive manner, suggesting that the additive increase in collagen synthesis results from additional post-transcriptional mechanisms.

Collagen Synthesis in Cultured Human Skin Fibroblasts: Effect of Ascorbic Acid and Its Analogs
TL;DR: In confluent human skin fibroblasts maintained in 0.5% serum-supplemented medium, L-ascorbate specifically stimulated the rate of incorporation of labeled proline into total collagenase-sensitive protein, without changing the specific activity of the intracellular free proline, and was found to be most effective.
