An inter-laboratory trial of the unified BARGE bioaccessibility method for arsenic, cadmium and lead in soil.
Joanna Wragg,Mark Cave,Nicholas T. Basta,Esther F.A. Brandon,Stan W. Casteel,Sébastien Denys,Christian Grøn,Agnes G. Oomen,Kenneth J. Reimer,Karine Tack,Tom Van de Wiele +10 more
TL;DR: The study showed that the UBM met the benchmark criteria for both the stomach and stomach & intestine phase for As and for Cd, and recommends tighter control of pH in the stomach phase extraction to improve between-laboratory variability, more reproducible in vivo validation data and that a follow up inter- laboratory trial should be carried out.

TL;DR: COVID-19 will have a long-lasting impact on the environmental health field and will open new research perspectives and policy needs and the mechanisms of these interactions deserve additional scrutiny.

Bioaccessibility of trace elements as affected by soil parameters in smelter-contaminated agricultural soils: A statistical modeling approach
Aurélie Pelfrêne,Christophe Waterlot,M. Mazzuca,Catherine Nisse,Damien Cuny,Antoine Richard,Sébastien Denys,Christophe Heyman,H. Roussel,Géraldine Bidar,Francis Douay +10 more
TL;DR: The statistical modeling approach was reasonably successful, indicating that the main soil factors influencing the bioaccessibility of TEs were taken into account and the predictions could be applicable for further risk evaluation in the studied area.

In vitro assessment of the pulmonary toxicity and gastric availability of lead-rich particles from a lead recycling plant.
Gaëlle Uzu,Jean-Jacques Sauvain,Armelle Baeza-Squiban,Michael Riediker,Magdalena Sanchez Sandoval Hohl,Stéphanie Val,Karine Tack,Sébastien Denys,Philippe Pradere,Camille Dumat +9 more
TL;DR: Lead toxicity and bioaccessibility assessments were performed on emissions from a lead recycling plant, using complementary chemical acellular tests and toxicological assays, and the finest PM(1) particles induced the most significant pro-inflammatory response in human bronchial epithelial cells.

Bioaccessibility, solid phase distribution, and speciation of Sb in soils and in digestive fluids
TL;DR: Determination of the Sb speciation in the soil matrix is an accurate way to demonstrate that this metalloïd can be considered as a non major issue in the overall risk characterisation if it occurs under the pentavalent form.
