A navigation apparatus acquires a traffic event and accordingly determines whether or not to change a guiding route to a destination. Based on an affirmative determination, the navigation apparatus displays icons corresponding to traffic events causing the affirmative determination near a road containing the traffic event in a map image in a representation mode for an image of the traffic event different from a normal representation mode assigned to the traffic event. In this manner, the navigation apparatus changes the guiding route to the destination dynamically depending on information about traffic events on roads and allows a user to recognize a cause of changing the guiding route.

SOLUTION: A navigation system 10 includes: area determining means 26 for determining an area of a predetermined distance range which involves present position in accordance to a present position; area extracting means 32 for extracting network data for route searching within the area; comparison route searching means 33 for searching the best route as a comparison route with setting each node on a recommended route within the area as a start point except the attribute information of each link; and comparison route estimating means 25 for estimating the recommended route and the comparison route. When it is estimated that the comparison route is more advantageous than the recommended route by the route estimating means 25, the reason why the comparison route is not determined to be a recommended route is shown in a display means 27 with a guide image of the recommended route according to the link attribute of the comparison route. The invention relates to a navigation device and a route search method. The navigation device and the route search method can be used for timely prompting a user about a bypass route for bypassing a forward jammed route, when the user drives along a guide route. The navigation device comprises a traffic information acquiring part, a to-be-bypassed route judging part, a difficultly bypassed route judging part and a control part, wherein the to-be-bypassed route judging part is used for judging if a to-be-bypassed route is contained in the forward guide route of a present position; the difficultly bypassed route judging part is used for judging if a difficultly bypassed route is contained in the forward guide route of the present position; when the to-be-bypassed route judging part confirms that the to-be-bypassed route is contained, the control part controls a route search part to newly search a bypass route capable of bypassing the to-be-bypassed route as the guide route; and when the difficultly bypassed route judging part confirms that the difficultly bypassed route is positioned between the present position and the to-be-bypassed route judged by the to-be-bypassed route judging part, the control part controls the route search part to newly search a bypass route capable of bypassing the to-be-bypassed route and the difficultly bypassed route as the guide route.

A route search apparatus (100) comprises an extraction section (101), an acquisition section (102), an identifying section (103), and a search section (104). The extraction section (101) extracts railroad crossings on map data. The acquisition section (102) acquires the number of cars (the amount of traffic shut-off) to shut off the traffic for each time zone in the crossing extracted by the extraction section (101). The identifying section (103) identifies the crossing (congested crossing) in which congestion above a certain level occurs on the basis of the amount of the traffic shut-off acquired by the acquisition section (102). The search section (104) multiplies a link including the congested crossing identified by the identifying section (103) by a predetermined link cost value to search a route to the destination.
