An object of the present invention is to reduce the possibility of a power assistance failure because of the phenomenon that steering assisting power which an electric power steering unit can generate is lower than the steering assisting power which is required for the electric power steering unit. A vehicle steering control device comprises an electric power steering unit, a steering ratio varying unit which drives an output member relative to an input member driven by steering operation of a driver to vary a steering ratio, and a control means which controls the steering ratio varying unit. The control means decreases in magnitude the relative drive velocity of the output member driven by the steering ratio varying unit relative to the input member when the magnitude of a difference between the maximum value of the steering drive velocity range of said steerable wheels which allows said power steering unit to generate a required steering assisting power and an actual steering drive velocity of said steerable wheels is small in contrast to the large difference.

A vehicular steering system can suppress, even upon a change in a neutral position of a steering wheel, a right and left difference in the behavior of a vehicle by keeping neutral positions of steerable road wheels from the start of control. When a steering mode is switched from an automatic steering mode to a manual steering mode (S 150 ), the rudder angle control device gradually reduces a control gain Klka of the automatic steering mode (S 600 ), and reduces by degrees a size of a deviation between the two operating positions (S 400, 500, 800˜1000 ), only when the steering operation is performed by a driver (S 350 ).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensively constitutable steering assisting device having a boosting device capable of boosting a voltage of an inputted DC power source without detecting a boosted output voltage. SOLUTION: A control device 6 of an electric power steering device 1 has a boosting part 60. The boosting part 60 has field-effect transistors 602 and 603 and a microcomputer 62. The microcomputer 62 boosts and outputs a DC voltage of a battery 15 by switching the field-effect transistors 602 and 603 based on the DC voltage of the battery 15 and a target value of the output voltage. Then, the microcomputer 62 detects the DC voltage of the battery 15. The DC voltage of the battery 15 is naturally lower than an output voltage of the boosting part 60. Thus, there is no need to require high withstand voltage performance in a detecting part. SOLUTION: A microcomputer portion 51 changes the steering gear ratio by controlling rotations of the electric motor 31 through a driving circuit 53. A microcomputer portion 61 assists rotating operation of a steering wheel 11 of a driver by drive-controlling the electric motor 31 through a driving circuit 63. A target voltage computing portion 61e calculates target voltage according to the steering gear ratio calculated by a gear ratio computing portion 51 and the steering speed of the steering wheel 11, and controls power source voltage for the driving circuit 63 by a boosting circuit 62 according to the target voltage. A temperature estimating portion 61g estimates the temperature of electric components structuring the boosting circuit 62, and a gear ratio change instructing portion 61h instructs the change of the steering gear ratios when the estimated temperature becomes high.
