Systems and methods for providing a hydraulic lift device for use in producing a subterranean well. In some cases, the hydraulic lift device includes a hydraulic cylinder having a first cylindrical sleeve slidably coupled to a second cylindrical sleeve, wherein the first and second sleeves define a hollow channel to accommodate passage of a polished rod. In some cases, the first cylindrical sleeve includes a surface for securing a portion of the polished rod. Additionally, in some cases, the lift device includes a port in fluid communication with the hollow channel, wherein the port is configured to receive an inlet line from a hydraulic pump. In some cases, the lift device also includes a guidance system disposed at least partially outside the hydraulic cylinder, wherein the guidance system is configured to prevent axial rotation of the first cylindrical sleeve with resect to the second cylindrical sleeve. Other implementations are described.

Hydraulic lift device

A pumping unit comprising a supporting post and a walking beam, having a head end and a tail end, pivotally connected to the post to allow for rocking of the beam about a horizontal pivot axis. The head end is connected to a vertical pump rod. The walking beam is also connected to one end of an arm, the opposite end of which is connected to a drive assembly for rocking of the beam about the horizontal pivot axis to reciprocate and produce a predetermined number of up and down strokes per minute of the pump rod. The drive assembly includes a rotating power device connected by sheaves and belts a transmission assembly whereby rotation of the power device is translated to a longitudinal force on the arm for rocking of the beam. The drive assembly is further characterized by a speed reducer interpositionable between the power device and the power transmission assembly to substantially reduce the number of up and down strokes per minute of the pump rod.

A pumping unit has a drive train comprising a very large mass including large diameter series connected sheaves, one of which is a large crank sheave. The crank sheave is directly connected to a pitman arm which oscillates a walking beam, which in turn reciprocates a horsehead attached to a bridle. The bridle is connected to a polished rod associated with a downhole pump. The crank wheel, pitman arm, and rocking beam are arranged respective to one another to cause the tail bearing to oscillate predominantly in the second quadrant, and to cause the center of gravity of the pitman arm to be located predominantly between the vertical axis of the crank wheel and the Samson post bearing. The geometry of the crank wheel, pitman arm, and rocking beam provides substantially constant, positional of the polish rod on the downstroke, with rapid positional occurring at peak polish rod velocity, which causes a longer downhole pump stroke because of the induced elongation of the sucker rod string.

In a heavy-duty pump jack as used in oil well pumping, a leverage beam is oscillated by a motor-driven crank and the leverage beam acts upon the walking beam through an adjustable stroke controller.

Variable leverage oil field pump jack

A toothed belt drive transmission for pumping units in the oil field which includes a frame and base fitted with a drive pulley on a drive shaft, intermediate and crank shafts, and tandem-mounted belt sprockets with cooperating toothed belts for transmitting power from a drive source to the walking beam of a pumping unit. A conventional drive pulley is carried by a drive shaft rotatably mounted on the pumping unit frame and driven by a motive force by means of one or more V-belts. A drive belt sprocket is also mounted on the drive shaft above and in alignment with an intermediate-to-drive belt sprocket which is mounted on an intermediate shaft, and cooperates in rotation with the drive belt sprocket by means of a first toothed belt. The intermediate shaft is journalled for rotation in the frame and carries an intermediate-to-crank belt sprocket which is aligned with a crank belt sprocket of larger diameter than the intermediate-to-crank belt sprocket, and is rotatably mounted on a third shaft. The crank belt sprocket cooperates with the intermediate-to-crank belt sprocket by means of a second toothed belt, and the third shaft is provided with crank arms and pitmans, the latter of which are pivotally carried by the walking beam to effect reciprocation of a wireline bridle attached to the pumping unit horsehead.

The pump drive mechanism provides a high reduction drive from a continuous operating motor to a crank arm to oscillate the counterbalanced jack for a pump as used in the oil field. The drive utilizes three series of belts to obtain a reduction of 190 to 1. The belt drive reduces downtime and improves the efficiency of drives for pump jacks.
