Cyclodextrin-derived host molecules as reversal agents for the neuromuscular blocker rocuronium bromide: synthesis and structure-activity relationships.
Julia Adam,D. Jonathan Bennett,Anton Bom,John K. Clark,Helen Feilden,Edward J Hutchinson,Ronald Palin,Alan Prosser,David C. Rees,Georgina M. Rosair,Donald Stevenson,Gary J Tarver,Zhang Mingqiang +12 more
TL;DR: A series of mono- and per-6-substituted cyclodextrin derivatives were synthesized as synthetic receptors (or host molecules) of rocuronium bromide and can be used as reversal agents of the neuromuscular blocker to assist rapid recovery of patients after surgery.

6-Mercapto-cyclodextrin derivatives: reversal agents for drug-induced neuromuscular block
Mingqiang Zhang,Ronald Palin,David Jonathan Bennet +2 more
- 23 Nov 2000
TL;DR: In this paper, a 6-mercapto-cyclodextrin derivative has been shown to be suitable for use in the reversal of drug-induced neuromuscular block.

Mutual induced fit in cyclodextrin–rocuronium complexes
Alan Cooper,Margaret Nutley,Elizabeth J. MacLean,Kenneth S. Cameron,Lee Fielding,Jordi Mestres,Ronald Palin +6 more
TL;DR: Isothermal titration calorimetry, NMR and fluorescence experiments in solution, together with X-ray crystallography and molecular modelling, suggest that in order to induce encapsulation both rocuronium bromide and the modified cyclodextrin undergo conformational changes.

Novel piperidinium and pyridinium agents as water-soluble acetylcholinesterase inhibitors for the reversal of neuromuscular blockade.
Ronald Palin,John K. Clark,Phill Cowley,Alan W. Muir,Eleanor Pow,Alan B. Prosser,Robert Taylor,Zhang Mingqiang +7 more
TL;DR: A series of piperid inium and pyridinium agents containing a common structural fragment of 5,6-dimethoxybenzothiophene have been synthesised as water-soluble acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, potentially useful as intravenous reversal agents of neuromuscular blocking agents in surgical anaesthesia.
