Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the human reduced folate carrier: Characterization of a high-frequency G/A variant at position 80 and transport properties of the His27 and Arg27 carriers
Johnathan R. Whetstine,Andrew J. Gifford,Teah L. Witt,Xiang Y. Liu,Robin M. Flatley,Murray D. Norris,Michelle Haber,Jeffrey W. Taub,Yaddanapudi Ravindranath,Larry H. Matherly +9 more
TL;DR: Although there were no significant differences between the kinetic parameters for methotrexate transport for the hRFC forms, minor differences were measured in the K i s for other substrates including Tomudex, 5,10-dideazatetrahydrofolate, GW1843U89, and 10-ethyl-10-deazaaminopterin and for 5-formyl tetrahydofolate.

Role of MRP4 and MRP5 in biology and chemotherapy.
Janardhan Sampath,Masashi Adachi,Sigrid Hatse,Lieve Naesens,Jan Balzarini,Robin M. Flatley,Larry H. Matherly,John D. Schuetz +7 more
TL;DR: Cumulatively, these studies reveal that the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters MRP4 and MRP5 have a unique role in biology and in chemotherapeutic response.
Expression of MRP4 Confers Resistance to Ganciclovir and Compromises Bystander Cell Killing
Masashi Adachi,Janardhan Sampath,Lu Bin Lan,Daxi Sun,Philip Hargrove,Robin M. Flatley,Ann Tatum,Mary Z. Edwards,Michele Wezeman,Larry H. Matherly,Richard R. Drake,John D. Schuetz +11 more
TL;DR: Findings indicate that a nucleotide transporter, such as MRP4, modulates the cellular response to GCV and thus may influence not only the efficacy of antiviral therapy, but also prodrug-based gene therapy, which is critically dependent upon bystander cell killing.

The Role of Cytidine Deaminase and GATA1 Mutations in the Increased Cytosine Arabinoside Sensitivity of Down Syndrome Myeloblasts and Leukemia Cell Lines
Yubin Ge,Tanya L. Jensen,Mark Stout,Robin M. Flatley,Patrick J. Grohar,Yaddanapudi Ravindranath,Larry H. Matherly,Jeffrey W. Taub +7 more
TL;DR: Identification of the mechanisms of differential expression of genes encoding enzymes involved in ara-C metabolism between DS and non-DS myeloblasts may lead to improvements in AML therapy and the potential role of GATA1 in regulating CDA transcription and the CDAsf promoter acting as an enhancer is suggested.

Roles of USF, Ikaros and Sp proteins in the transcriptional regulation of the human reduced folate carrier B promoter.
Mingjun Liu,Johnathan R. Whetstine,Scott G. Payton,Yubin Ge,Robin M. Flatley,Larry H. Matherly +5 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that co-operative interactions between transcription factors Sp1 and USF are essential for high-level hRFC-B transactivation and imply that these effects are modulated by the family of Ikaros proteins and by histone acetylation.
