Without quality presence–absence data, discrimination metrics such as TSS can be misleading measures of model performance
Boris Leroy,Robin Delsol,Robin Delsol,Bernard Hugueny,Christine N. Meynard,Chéïma Barhoumi,Chéïma Barhoumi,Morgane Barbet-Massin,Céline Bellard,Céline Bellard +9 more
TL;DR: This work investigates TSS and an alternative set of metrics—similarity indices, also known as F‐measures, and shows that even in ideal conditions, TSS can be misleading because of its dependence on prevalence, whereas similarity/F‐measures provide adequate estimations of model discrimination capacity.
Without quality presence-absence data, discrimination metrics such as TSS can be misleading measures of model performance
Boris Leroy,Robin Delsol,Bernard Hugueny,Christine N. Meynard,Chéïma Barhoumi,Chéïma Barhoumi,Morgane Barbet-Massin,Céline Bellard,Céline Bellard +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that even in ideal conditions, TSS can be misleading because of its dependence on prevalence, whereas similarity/F-measures provide adequate estimations of model discrimination capacity, including metrics specifically designed for presence-pseudoabsence.

The relationship between the spatial scaling of biodiversity and ecosystem stability
TL;DR: A simple theoretical model to address the joint dependence of diversity and stability on spatial scale, from local to continental, and shows that the link between the two relationships strongly depends on whether the temporal fluctuations of the ecosystem property of interest are more correlated within than between species.
Theoretical solutions for the evaluation of discrimination capacity of species distribution models
Boris Leroy,Robin Delsol,Bernard Hugueny,Christine N Meynard,Chéïma Barhoumi,Morgane Barbet-Massin,Céline Bellard +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that TSS is misleading because of its dependence on prevalence and introduce an alternative set of metrics based on similarity indices that represents a theoretical solution to evaluate model discrimination capacity.

The relationship between the spatial scaling of biodiversity and ecosystem stability
TL;DR: This model integrates the well-known species- area relationship (SAR) with a recent proposal to quantify the spatial scaling of stability, called the invariability-area relationship (IAR), and contrasts two assumptions about the spatial decay of correlations.
