This paper surveys current technology and research in the area of digital color imaging. In order to establish the background and lay down terminology, fundamental concepts of color perception and measurement are first presented using vector-space notation and terminology. Present-day color recording and reproduction systems are reviewed along with the common mathematical models used for representing these devices. Algorithms for processing color images for display and communication are surveyed, and a forecast of research trends is attempted. An extensive bibliography is provided.

Digital color imaging

In a display apparatus and a driving method thereof, a detector determines whether a timing controller is operated in a three-dimensional (3D) mode or a two-dimensional (2D) mode to output a first or second mode signal according to a result of the determination. A compensator compensates for a gamma value of a 3D image to be increased in response to a first mode signal when the 2D mode is converted to the 3D mode and decreases an increased gamma value to a gamma value for a 2D image in response to a second mode signal when the 3D mode is converted to the 2D mode.

Display apparatus and method of driving the same

An object optimized printing system and method comprises a page description language decomposing system, a command instruction and data generating system and an image output terminal controller. The PDL decomposition system inputs a print file defining a plurality of pages in the page description language and locates the plurality of objects forming each page and their object types. Based on the determine object types and any explicit rendering commands in the PDL file, the PDL decomposition system automatically generates rendering tags for each of the objects. The rendering tags are used to control the command instruction and data generating system, the IOT controller and/or the image output terminal to optimize the printing by the IOT on an object-by-object basis. Based on the objects and the generated rendering tags, the command instruction and data generating system generates the differing types of data and the command instructions on a scanline-by-scanline basis. The generated command instructions and data are output to the IOT controller scanline-by-scanline. The data output to the IOT controller includes metabit data which is generated from the rendering tags. The metabit data output to the IOT controller is used to control various subsystems of the IOT controller and the IOT to optimize the printing characteristics of the IOT for each differing object on each scanline.

Object optimized printing system and method

Rather than implementing a printer as a single set of rendering parameters, a printer can be implemented as a “meta-printer” that comprises one or more virtual printers. The virtual printers define different sets of rendering parameters. Each virtual printer is accessed through a page description language or through a user interface presiding in a print driver or server. In particular, each virtual printer of the meta-printer has an associated set of rendering parameters. One virtual printer of this meta-printer may be set up to print a first type of content using a first set of selected rendering parameters. This same virtual printer may be set up to print a different type of content using a different set of selected rendering parameters. This may be repeated for any number of additional content types. A user can access these virtual printers to print a document containing a variety of different content types. A user may select one virtual printer of the meta-printer to render an entire document. In this case, if the selected virtual printer defines only a single selected rendering parameter option for each rendering parameter, that rendering parameter option will be used to render all of the different various content types in that document. In contrast, if the selected virtual printer defines different selected rendering parameter options for different content types for various rendering parameters, the different content types will be rendered differently using the particular rendering parameter options selected for each content type.

Conventionally, the rendering parameter options are set independently of a document. Each object is rendered independently. For documents having many independent objects, this requires significant computational resources and time. However, many documents have a predominant document type. For such documents, it is often sufficient to identify the document type. Then, predetermined rendering techniques are applied to the objects within that document based on the determined document type. Alternatively, a user may be interested in one type of object to the exclusion of the other types of objects. Accordingly, optimally rendering objects whose quality the user is indifferent to wastes resources. Document type based rendering systems, methods and graphical user interfaces define rendering parameter options for rendering the objects of a document based on an identified document type, irrespective of the object types of that document's objects. The document type based rendering systems, methods and graphical user interfaces optionally determine a document's predominant object and apply rendering parameter options to that document's objects based on the determined predominant object type. The document type based rendering systems, methods and graphical user interfaces permit document optimized rendering parameter options to be defined. The document type based rendering systems, methods and graphical user interfaces apply two or more sets of rendering parameter options to different types of objects of a document, based on a document type selected or determined for that document.

A method of producing a custom packaging system for arbitrary objects. A first image of an object to be packaged is received via an electronic user interface. Information relating to the material properties of the object may be received as well via the interface. A three dimensional size for the object is determined. At least one package for the object is automatically selected. Based on the material properties, a packing material type is automatically determined. Based upon the size and the selected package, a packing material amount is determined. Further printing options are permitted.
