A system and method related to dispensing and disposing medical items is provided. The dispensing portion is generally configured to dispense medical items stored within compartments based on dispensing instructions. The disposal portion is generally configured to sort waste items into a plurality of containers according to applicable rules and regulations governing the handling and/or disposal of such items. In some embodiments, a system comprises sorting stations each of which houses a number of disposable containers. Each station can identify an item of waste, determine the most appropriate container for the item, and facilitate disposal of the item in the appropriate container.

Combination Disposal and Dispensing Apparatus and Method

The present application is directed to a remotely monitored medical device. A sensor (24) associated with the device (22) detects its state and generates a signal representative of the sensed state. Based on the sensor signal, a remote notification device receives information indicative of the device's state according to a messaging protocol. The notification device informs a user of the sensed state so that appropriate action is taken.

A pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly ( 1810 ) for disposing of sharps and one or more of fluid pharmaceutical waste and solid pharmaceutical waste includes a receiver assembly ( 1851 ) having a sharps receiver ( 1815 ), a waste receiver ( 1812 ), and a receiver retainer ( 1816 ). The sharps receiver ( 1815 ) receives sharps. The sharps receiver ( 1815 ) includes a sharps receiver body ( 1823 ) that defines a sharps region ( 1827 C). The waste receiver ( 1812 ) receives one of fluid pharmaceutical waste and solid pharmaceutical waste. The waste receiver ( 1812 ) includes a waste receiver body ( 1819 ) that defines a waste region ( 1827 A) that is independent of the sharps region ( 1827 C). The receiver retainer ( 1816 ) receives the sharps receiver ( 1815 ) and the waste receiver ( 1812 ). The sharps receiver body ( 1823 ) and the waste receiver body ( 1819 ) are positioned substantially adjacent to one another within the receiver retainer ( 1816 ). The sharps receiver ( 1815 ) and the waste receiver ( 1812 ) are integrally formed as a unitary structure. Additionally, the sharps receiver ( 1815 ) and the waste receiver ( 1812 ) can be inserted into and/or removed from the receiver retainer ( 1816 ) together as an integrated unit.

Pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly

A container system is provided with a container having a door mounted for pivotal reciprocation about a door pivot axis between opened and closed positions. The container system also has a carrier with a body receiving the container and an arm coupled to the body for pivotal reciprocation about an arm pivot axis that is oriented substantially parallel to the door pivot axis. The arm engages the door of the container, and the pivotal reciprocation of the arm reciprocates the door of the container between the opened and closed positions.

Medical waste disposal system

A container system is provided for removing a needle portion from a needle holder of a needle system. The system includes a receptacle defining an opening, a lid configured to cover the receptacle opening, wherein the lid defines an aperture having a shape configured to receive a needle system having a first configuration. The system also includes an adapter configured for engagement in the lid aperture, wherein the adapter defines an aperture having a shape configured to receive a needle system having a second configuration, and wherein the engagement of the adapter in the lid aperture resists rotation of the adapter with respect to the lid.
