The Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) is a TeV-scale high-luminosity linear $e^+e^-$ collider under development by international collaborations hosted by CERN. This document provides an overview of the design, technology, and implementation aspects of the CLIC accelerator. For an optimal exploitation of its physics potential, CLIC is foreseen to be built and operated in stages, at centre-of-mass energies of 380 GeV, 1.5 TeV and 3 TeV, for a site length ranging between 11 km and 50 km. CLIC uses a Two-Beam acceleration scheme, in which normal-conducting high-gradient 12 GHz accelerating structures are powered via a high-current Drive Beam. For the first stage, an alternative with X-band klystron powering is also considered. CLIC accelerator optimisation, technical developments, and system tests have resulted insignificant progress in recent years. Moreover, this has led to an increased energy efficiency and reduced power consumption of around 170 MW for the 380 GeV stage, together with a reduced cost estimate of approximately 6 billion CHF. The construction of the first CLIC energy stage could start as early as 2026 and first beams would be available by 2035, marking the beginning of a physics programme spanning 25-30 years and providing excellent sensitivity to Beyond Standard Model physics, through direct searches and via a broad set of precision measurements of Standard Model processes, particularly in the Higgs and top-quark sectors.

The theoretical minimum emittance cells are the optimal configurations for achieving the absolute minimum emittance, if specific optics constraints are satisfied at the middle of the cell's dipole. Linear lattice design options based on an analytical approach for the theoretical minimum emittance cells are presented in this paper. In particular the parametrization of the quadrupole strengths and optics functions with respect to the emittance and drift lengths is derived. A multiparametric space can be then created with all the cell parameters, from which one can choose any of them to be optimized. An application of this approach is finally presented for the linear and nonlinear optimization of the Compact Linear Collider predamping rings.

Superconducting 72-pole Indirect Cooling 3Tesla Wiggler for CLIC Damping Ring and ANKA Image Beamline☆

A compact damping ring with a limited circumference of about 160 m is proposed for producing kilowatt-level coherent EUV radiation. The electron bunch in the storage ring is modulated by a 257 nm wavelength seed laser with the help of the angular-dispersion-induced micro-bunching method (Feng and Zhao in Sci Rep 7:4724, 2017), coherent radiation at 13.5 nm with an average power of about 2.5 kW can be achieved with the state-of-the-art accelerator and laser technologies.

A synchrotron-based kilowatt-level radiation source for EUV lithography

Superconducting multipole wigglers installed on synchrotron radiation sources are the powerful tools for researches in various areas of science and technics. SuperConducting Multipole Wigglers (SCMWs) represent sign-alternating sequence of magnets with lateral magnetic field. Relativistic electrons, passing through such set of magnetic elements, create radiation with properties of synchrotron radiations depending on maximum field, its period and poles number. SCMWs are installed on Synchrotron Radiation (SR) sources to increase brightness and rigidity of the radiation. The first superconducting wiggler has been made and installed on the VEPP-3 electron storage ring as a generator of synchrotron radiation in 1979. Nowadays tens of the wigglers are successfully working in the various synchrotron radiation centers and more than 10 of them were developed and made in Budker INP. These wigglers may be divided into 3 groups: 1Long period 14.5-20 cm with field 7-7.5Tesla. 2Medium period 4.8-6 cm with field ~ 3.5-4.5 Tesla 3Short period 3-3.5 cm with field ~2-2.5 Tesla. The description of magnetic properties of the wigglers, parameters of both the cryogenic and vacuum systems and their technical decisions are presented in the report.

Superconducting Multipole Wigglers: State of the Art

To achieve high luminosity at the collision point of the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC), the normalized horizontal and vertical emittances of the electron and positron beams must be reduced to 500 and 4 nm before the beams enter the 1.5 TeV linear accelerators. An effective way to accomplish ultralow emittances with only small effects on the electron polarization is using damping rings operating at 2.86 GeV equipped with superconducting wiggler magnets. This paper describes a technical design concept for the CLIC damping wigglers.
